Our irrigation systems are fundamental to the long-term success of our installations. As our portfolio of remotely monitored systems continues to grow, we are looking for a Technical Support Engineer to oversee the monitoring, maintenance, fault finding and installation of irrigation systems across our projects.
The Role
Reporting to the Design & Horticulture Manager, you will be responsible for the technical management of Scotscape's irrigation systems throughout their lifecycle, including remote monitoring, fault diagnosis, installation, commissioning, optimisation and continuous improvement.
This is a varied role combining office-based remote monitoring with site-based fault diagnosis, repairs, commissioning and installation. The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring our irrigation systems operate efficiently, minimising downtime and supporting the long-term performance of our living infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities
Remote Monitoring & Technical Support
· Monitor remotely connected irrigation systems using online management platforms.
· Review system alerts, performance data and irrigation schedules.
· Identify faults and implement corrective actions remotely where possible.
· Optimise irrigation programmes to suit seasonal and site-specific requirements.
· Maintain records of system performance, faults and completed actions.
· Provide technical support to maintenance teams and clients where required.
· Maintain the company irrigation asset register and ensure accurate records of installed systems.
· Manage remote monitoring platforms, user access and controller configuration.
· Analyse recurring faults and system performance trends, making recommendations to improve reliability and efficiency.
Fault Finding & Repairs
· Attend sites to diagnose and repair irrigation system faults.
· Troubleshoot electrical, hydraulic and control system issues.
· Replace faulty components including pumps, valves, controllers, sensors and pipework.
· Carry out planned servicing and preventative maintenance.
· Respond to urgent call-outs where required.
· Ensure repairs are completed efficiently and to a high standard.
Installation & Commissioning
- Install irrigation systems on new green wall, Living Pillar®, landscaping and green roof projects.
· Install pumps, pipework, valves, controllers, tanks and associated equipment.
· Commission new systems and verify correct operation.
· Test system performance and complete commissioning records.
· Support project teams during installation and handover.
· Develop and maintain company irrigation installation, commissioning and testing standards.
· Produce commissioning records and technical documentation for project handover.
· Prepare or contribute to the irrigation sections of Operation & Maintenance (O&M) manuals and as-built documentation.
Continuous Improvement
· Assist with the development of company irrigation standards and best practice.
· Recommend improvements to existing systems and control strategies.
· Support innovation in remote monitoring and smart irrigation technology.
· Assist in training colleagues on irrigation systems and fault diagnosis.
· Support the Design & Horticulture Manager with the development of standard irrigation details and technical specifications.
· Evaluate new irrigation products, technologies and suppliers to improve system performance and reliability.
· Identify opportunities to improve installation methods, maintenance procedures and remote monitoring capabilities.
· Deliver technical guidance and training to colleagues on irrigation systems, fault diagnosis and commissioning best practice.
Skills & Experience
Essential
· Experience installing and maintaining irrigation systems.
· Experience with smart irrigation platforms and remote monitoring systems.
· Strong fault-finding and problem-solving skills.
· Good understanding of pumps, valves, controllers and irrigation equipment.
· Ability to interpret technical drawings and schematics.
· Good IT skills and confidence using cloud-based systems.
· Full UK Driving Licence.
· CSCS
Desirable
· Experience working with green walls, landscaping or horticultural irrigation.
· Basic electrical fault-finding experience.
· Knowledge of fertigation systems.
· Water Regulations awareness.
· IPAF.
· PASMA.
· First Aid at Work.
· LANTRA or equivalent irrigation qualification.
