Role Overview
We are looking for a reliable and proactive Night Shift Transport Operator to join our transport team within a busy UK haulage operation.
Working during the night, you will take responsibility for overseeing planned deliveries and supporting our drivers throughout the shift. You will act as the key point of contact for drivers, customers and internal teams, ensuring any operational issues are dealt with promptly and effectively.
The role requires someone who can remain calm under pressure, make sound decisions independently and communicate clearly when dealing with unexpected issues such as delays, vehicle problems, missed delivery slots or changes to planned routes.
You will also play an important role in ensuring that any issues arising overnight are considered in advance of the following day's operation, helping to minimise disruption and maintain service levels.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee and monitor planned night-time deliveries, ensuring drivers are progressing according to schedule.
- Maintain regular communication with drivers throughout the night and provide support when operational issues arise.
- Respond promptly to unexpected situations, including delays, vehicle breakdowns, delivery issues, route disruptions and driver queries.
- Make appropriate operational decisions to keep deliveries moving safely and efficiently.
- Communicate with customers regarding significant delays or changes to delivery arrangements where required.
- Liaise with relevant transport, warehouse, customer service and management teams to resolve issues effectively.
- Maintain accurate records of overnight incidents, delays and operational changes.
- Escalate significant or unresolved issues to the appropriate manager.
- Monitor the impact of overnight issues on the following day's transport plan.
- Where necessary, review upcoming deliveries and driver/vehicle requirements to identify potential knock-on effects.
- Provide clear handover information to the day-shift transport team, ensuring outstanding issues and actions are communicated effectively.
- Support the business in maintaining high levels of customer service and operational efficiency.
- Ensure all activities are carried out in accordance with company procedures, transport legislation and relevant health and safety requirements.
Key Skills & Experience
The successful candidate will ideally have:
- Previous experience in a transport, haulage, logistics or distribution environment.
- Good understanding of UK road transport operations and delivery processes.
- Strong organisational and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to prioritise and make decisions in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Confidence dealing with drivers, customers and colleagues at all levels.
- Ability to work independently, particularly during overnight hours.
- Good attention to detail and the ability to maintain accurate records.
- A calm and practical approach when dealing with operational problems.
- Good IT skills and confidence using transport management systems and standard office software.
Previous experience in a transport office, transport planning, traffic operation or logistics coordination role would be advantageous.

Pay: £32,000.00-£35,000.00 per year
