About CAFE VIE the bistro
CAFE VIE the bistro is Wakefield’s best-rated restaurant, celebrated for exceptional cuisine, beautiful presentation, and outstanding customer experiences. Our kitchen operates to the highest professional standards within a supportive brigade system. As a Chef de Partie, you will lead a key station and play a vital role in upholding and enhancing our reputation for quality and excellence.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and take full ownership of a designated kitchen section (examples: grill, sauté, vegetables, sauce, or pastry), ensuring every dish meets our exacting standards of taste, quality, consistency, and visual appeal.
- Supervise, mentor, and train Commis Chefs and kitchen porters on your station, fostering skill development, teamwork, and a positive working environment.
- Collaborate closely with the Head Chef and Sous Chef on menu execution, daily specials, seasonal adaptations, and continuous improvement of dishes.
- Maintain impeccable kitchen organisation, cleanliness, and equipment care while ensuring full compliance with food handling, hygiene (including HACCP), allergen management, and workplace safety regulations.
- Manage stock for your section: receive and quality-check deliveries, store ingredients correctly to preserve freshness, control waste, and communicate ordering requirements effectively.
- Prepare mise en place and execute high-quality dishes during service with speed, precision, and calm professionalism in a fast-paced environment.
- Create visually appealing food and counter displays that reflect our restaurant’s high standards.
- Occasionally support front-of-house operations, such as operating the cash register and handling customer transactions, to ensure seamless service.
- Lead by example in maintaining the highest standards of attitude, professionalism, and passion for food that our team and customers expect.
Requirements
We are seeking candidates who excel in the three key qualities we value most: attitude, skill, and flexibility.
Skills & Attributes
- Strong, demonstrable culinary skills with advanced knowledge of professional techniques, food preparation, cooking methods, and presentation.
- Proven leadership and teamwork abilities – comfortable supervising, coaching, and motivating junior kitchen staff while contributing positively to the whole brigade.
- Excellent attention to detail, organisational skills, and the ability to manage a busy station efficiently under pressure.
- Outstanding communication skills and a collaborative approach.
- A positive, can-do attitude, genuine passion for food and customer service, and a proactive mindset.
- Thorough understanding of food safety, hygiene practices, and health & safety regulations.

Experience
- Minimum 4 years’ professional kitchen experience, with previous Commis Chef or equivalent hands-on role strongly preferred.
- Experience in high-volume, quality-focused, or fine-dining environments is advantageous.
- While formal culinary qualifications are welcomed, we place the greatest emphasis on practical skill, proven attitude, leadership potential, and your willingness to learn and grow with our team.
Availability
- Flexible and reliable – able to work weekdays, weekends, daytime, occasional evenings, and holidays as service demands require.
Benefits
- Competitive hourly pay, reflecting experience and contribution.
- Free, high-quality staff meals during every shift.
- Tip sharing.
- 30% discount on the entire bill (including drinks) when dining at the restaurant.
- 5.6 weeks holiday for full-time staff.
- Optional pension plan.
- Supportive work environment with clear opportunities for career progression (e.g., towards Sous Chef level).
- The pride and professional development that comes from working at Wakefield’s best-rated restaurant.
