We are currently seeking to recruit an enthusiastic and motivated individual who will provide a professional, efficient and customer focused service in the Pharmacy Dispensary at The Royal Brompton Hospital.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone who would like to progress within hospital pharmacy.
The successful candidates will have good interpersonal skills, with the ability to work to a high standard within the team or on their own initiative.
This post provides dispensing and administration support to the dispensary at The Royal Brompton Hospital, with the post holder also required, when necessary, to assist with Pharmacy stores and distribution.
The post holder will dispense clinically screened prescriptions and Controlled Drugs (CDs), including labelling, preparation, assembly and dispensing, using the Epic – Willow and Hyperspace systems in a timely manner.
To assist with filing and archiving prescriptions following agreed standard operating procedures (SOPs).
To interact with other staff and patients both in person and over the telephone and the need to work quickly and accurately under pressure.
Receive accurate collection of patient details and handling card transactions.
General reception duties.
Additional Duties:
To participate in ward and department topping up and ensuring appropriate stock rotation.
You may also be asked to support with pharmacy portering duties when cover is required.
To ensure that infection prevention and control is an integral part of service delivery.

Main tasks and responsibilities:
To work effectively as a member of the Pharmacy team

1. DISPENSARY
To carry out reception duties including answering the telephone and receiving prescriptions from staff and patients in a courteous manner, referring to Pharmacy Technicians or Pharmacists when appropriate
To dispense clinically screened prescriptions including labelling, preparation, assembly and dispensing using Epic- Willow and Hyperspace Programme.
To undertake accurate dispensing of Controlled Drugs, in accordance with current dispensing procedures.
To be responsible for the filing, organisation and general upkeep of the Controlled Drug room.
To deal with returned medication from the wards and outpatients including clinical trials.
Participate in the daily rolling stock take and have responsibility for stock management including re-stocking shelves, stock rotation, stock balancing, expiry date checks and maintaining clean and tidy storage for the various areas within the pharmacy.
To assist the Lead Pharmacy Technician, Principal Pharmacy Technician Patient Services and Chief Pharmacy Technician to maintain efficient stock control.
To take part in dispensary cycle counts.
To ensure that items taken out of hours are booked out each day to the appropriate Directorate on the Epic system.
To ensure that to-follow items are dispensed and sent to the wards or posted out to patients in a timely manner.
To replenish bottles, cartons and other dispensary consumables as required.
To monitor stock levels and order bottles, cartons and other dispensary consumables in a timely manner.
To ensure the walk-in fridge is maintained in a clean, organised and tidy condition.
To participate in Bank Holiday and weekend working as well as late duty on a rotational basis.
2. DISTRIBUTION
To be responsible for topping up Pharmacy stock on assigned wards and ensuring the ward stock is correctly stored and stock rotated liaising with ward pharmacists, pharmacy and ward staff.
To participate in the daily stock checks.
3. OUTSOURCING
To ensure all intubation boxes and resuscitation trays are prepared in a timely manner and are available on hand and in date.
To be responsible for all paperwork to be filed accordingly.
