Part-Time Gardener / Garden Maintenance Operative
Location: Northwood, Greater London
Oliver James Landscapes is a well-established garden maintenance and soft landscaping company based in Northwood, Greater London. We are known for delivering high-quality garden services to a loyal and growing client base.
We are currently seeking a reliable, motivated part-time gardener to join our garden maintenance teams, with the potential to progress to a full-time role for the right candidate.
This role involves assisting with the maintenance, development, and improvement of residential gardens and outdoor spaces. It is suited to someone with hands-on gardening experience or a genuine desire to build a long-term career in horticulture and landscape maintenance.
Key Responsibilities
- General garden maintenance across residential properties
- Lawn care including mowing, edging, and trimming
- Planting, pruning, weeding, mulching, and soil preparation
- Use of hand tools and powered gardening equipment safely and efficiently
- Assisting with irrigation system installation, maintenance, and minor repairs
- Supporting soft landscaping and garden enhancement projects
- Monitoring plant health and identifying pests or diseases
- Seasonal tasks such as leaf clearance, fertilising, and preparing gardens for changing weather conditions
- Working as part of a team to maintain consistently high standards on every site
Requirements
- Full, clean UK driving licence (essential)
- Previous experience in garden maintenance, landscaping, grounds maintenance, or similar work preferred but not essential
- Genuine interest in gardening, horticulture, or landscape work
- Basic plant knowledge and willingness to learn more
- Confident using hand tools and power tools (or willing to be trained)
- Physically fit and comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions
- Strong attention to detail and pride in quality work
- Ability to follow instructions and work efficiently
- Good communication skills and a positive team attitude
- Commitment to health and safety when operating equipment or handling materials
Pay
- £14–£15 per hour, depending on experience
- Opportunity to increase earnings as skills, responsibilities, and performance develop
Hours
- Part-time: 3 days per week to start
- Start time: 7:30am, meeting at our Northwood base
- Finish time: typically 4:00pm–6:00pm, depending on season
- Potential for additional days and progression to full-time employment
