Job Summary
We are seeking motivated, compassionate and highly skilled specialty doctors/psychiatrists, with expertise in working with either children, young people and families, and/or adults, to join our team of professionals dedicated to providing comprehensive assessment, diagnostic and therapeutic services to individuals with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and Autism.
The right persons will be ideally neuro-affirmative, trauma-informed, dynamic, innovative, and passionate about making a meaningful difference to clients and their families that may navigate the world with a neurodivergent perspective.
Our team is dedicated to addressing the needs of individuals who have faced extensive waiting times for neurodevelopmental assessment. You will provide comprehensive psychiatric services to children, adolescents, and their families, or working age and older adults, focusing on assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of neurodevelopmental and/or other comorbid conditions.
We are interested in hearing from people who are open to working as an associate or sessional work also.
We are primarily seeking psychiatrists that will be involved in MDT discussions and decision making in relation to diagnosis of both Autism and ADHD and lead the delivery of our medication prescribing service dedicated for individuals with ADHD. Your primary responsibility will be to provide expert psychiatric care, initiate medication regimens, and offer ongoing, reviews, monitoring and support to optimise the well-being and functioning of our clients with ADHD.
Duties
- To carry-out delegated leadership responsibilities for the medical team and staff within The Aspen Clinic, by providing senior input, and oversight to other Doctors and Nurses. This is also likely to include the delegation of specific medical responsibilities to other medical staff.
- To lead on the development of the effective and safe delivery of clinical pathways within the service, recognising areas that would benefit from quality improvement and/or risk management.
- To support and/or lead The Aspen Clinic’s Medicine’s Safety Committee.
- Collaborate, as appropriate, with individuals and families and/or other professionals to ensure comprehensive care and treatment for clients.
- Collaborate within a multidisciplinary team, including psychologists and speech and language therapists, to ensure comprehensive care and coordination of services.
- To act as the lead clinician for diagnosis of ADHD and/or Autism.
- Write and review prescriptions in line with NICE guidance.
- Coordinate medication management and support its transition within shared care agreements.
- To conduct and/or co-ordinate timely medication reviews and physical health reviews for clients that remain under the care of The Aspen Clinic.
- Utilise a flexible approach to delivery of clinical care.
- To ensure care is delivered in a person-centred, compassionate, dignified and trusting way ensuring the gender, ethnic, cultural and spiritual needs of clients inform practice.
- To practice in an intersectionally-aware, trauma-informed, attachment-informed and neuro-affirmative way.
- Maintain accurate and detailed patient records, including treatment plans, and progress notes.
- Stay current with the latest research and developments in this area of specialty and incorporate innovative and contemporary findings into practice.
- Adhere to GMC codes of conduct and ethical guidelines and always maintain client confidentiality.
- Supervise and support team members who carry out assessments of clients referred to the Aspen Clinic.
- To manage, appraise and give professional supervision to junior medical staff, as needed.
- To operate within your own scope of competency and practice and communicate to senior management if you feel anything has been asked of you that you feel is outside your current level of skill and competence.
- To have substantial and in-depth knowledge, and act in full accordance with legal requirements contained within the Mental Health Act 1983, the Children Act 1994 and other relevant legislation.
- To incorporate and integrate best practice findings from research, audits, investigations, enquiries, complaints and satisfaction surveys.
- As a senior clinician within the team, contribute to the development of the service and be actively involved in the critical evaluation of its effectiveness over time.
- To have knowledge of, and act in accordance with, The Aspen Clinic’s Child Protection, Risk management and Safeguarding Procedures.
- To actively take responsibility of Safeguard Lead/Officer at The Aspen Clinic.
- Actively participate in clinical audit and service improvement activity to improve patient care and patient outcomes (privacy, dignity and duty of candour).
Requirements
- MBBS or equivalent medical qualification.
- Current registration with the General Medical Council (GMC), with a clean license to practice at the time of the appointment.
- Enhanced DBS clearance.
- Desirable: a recognised qualification in healthcare leadership
- Proven experience working with children, young people and/or adults in a mental health setting
- Strong commitment to patient care with excellent communication skills
- To possess IT skills to effectively communicate in writing with colleagues, other professionals, clients and families in accordance with Aspen Clinic policies.
- Ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary teams and contribute to a positive clinical environment
- Knowledge of current psychiatric practices, guidelines, and ethical standards
- Flexibility to adapt to changing clinical demands and prioritize patient needs effectively
- Ability to motivate others with excellent influencing and negotiation skills.
