About the Role
Opticare is looking for an experienced Optical Assistant or Dispensing Optician to join our team in Belfast.
We are looking for someone who already has experience within the optical sector and is confident dealing with patients, frames, lenses and the day-to-day running of a busy independent practice.
Whether you are an experienced Optical Assistant or a GOC-registered Dispensing Optician, we would be interested in hearing from you.
You’ll work with high-quality products, including ZEISS lenses, alongside a wide selection of frames from leading and independent brands.
Opticare also works closely alongside our hearing care brand, Audiocare, one of Northern Ireland’s growing independent hearing care providers. This gives the successful candidate the opportunity to work within a wider optical and hearing healthcare environment and develop experience beyond traditional optical practice.
Key Responsibilities
Depending on your experience and qualifications, your role may include:
- Assisting patients with frame selection and providing knowledgeable advice
- Discussing lens options and recommending suitable products based on patients’ needs
- Working with a wide range of lenses, including single vision, bifocal and varifocal designs
- Taking accurate measurements, including PDs and fitting heights
- Adjusting, fitting and carrying out minor repairs to spectacles
- Processing and managing patient orders
- Liaising with laboratories and suppliers
- Providing excellent customer service throughout the patient journey
- Supporting the wider Opticare team with the day-to-day running of the practice
For qualified Dispensing Opticians, the role will also include the appropriate clinical and dispensing responsibilities within your scope of practice.
Working alongside Audiocare
As part of the role, you will also work alongside our Audiocare hearing care team, helping to support the smooth running of our hearing clinics.
This may include assisting with patient enquiries, coordinating appointments and supporting audiologists with the patient journey. No previous audiology experience is required, and full training and support will be provided.
This provides an opportunity to broaden your experience within a growing independent healthcare business while maintaining optics as the core focus of your role.
What We’re Looking For
We would like to hear from candidates with previous experience in the optical sector, either as:
- An experienced Optical Assistant; or
- A GOC-registered Dispensing Optician
You should be:
- Confident and professional when dealing with patients
- Experienced in optical dispensing and/or optical retail
- Friendly, organised and reliable
- Comfortable working as part of a close-knit team
- Focused on providing a high standard of patient care
- Keen to develop your knowledge and skills
Experience working with ZEISS lenses would be beneficial but is not essential.
