About the Role
Are you passionate about safeguarding, pastoral care and helping young people overcome barriers to learning and engagement?
At Trident Alternative Provision, we are seeking a dedicated and resilient Pastoral & Safeguarding Lead to ensure our pupils feel safe, supported and understood. Many of our learners have experienced disrupted education, trauma or significant social, emotional and mental health needs. Your role will be central in helping them re-engage, rebuild confidence and make positive progress.
This is a rewarding opportunity for an experienced pastoral professional with strong safeguarding knowledge and a genuine commitment to building restorative, trusting relationships. You will lead safeguarding and welfare processes, support staff with behaviour strategies, and provide a calm, consistent presence for pupils who may require additional support.
You will work closely with pupils, families, teaching staff and external agencies, using your expertise and behaviour data to identify needs, strengthen pastoral practice and ensure every young person has the opportunity to thrive.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead effective safeguarding, pastoral and pupil welfare strategies to ensure the safety and emotional wellbeing of all pupils.
- Act as a Designated Safeguarding Lead: manage concerns, referrals, records, meetings and staff safeguarding training.
- Monitor behaviour, safeguarding and incident trends, using data to inform targeted interventions.
- Provide guidance on Positive Behaviour Profiles, Behaviour Support Plans and positive handling approaches.
- Build strong, restorative relationships with pupils, offering direct support during periods of crisis or difficulty.
- Work collaboratively with families, social care, education professionals and multidisciplinary teams to secure positive outcomes.
- Lead pastoral briefings and support staff to develop consistent, high-quality pastoral practice.
- Oversee rewards systems, engagement projects and opportunities such as on-site work experience or community-based activities.
What You Will Bring
- Experience in pastoral care, safeguarding and supporting young people with additional or complex needs.
- Qualified or experienced Designated Safeguarding Lead with strong knowledge of safeguarding legislation and procedures.
- Calm, resilient and approachable, able to respond confidently to challenging situations.
- Excellent organisation and record-keeping skills.
- Ability to build trusting relationships with pupils, families and colleagues.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to motivate others.
- Creative, solution-focused mindset with a passion for helping young people succeed.
- Ability to thrive in a dynamic, fast-paced environment while maintaining perspective and humour.
