Chilwell Products Ltd is a company that manufactures scaffold bands and nail plates, located between Sandiacre/Stapleford and Ilkeston. We are a small, 3rd generation family run business trading for nearly 50 years.
Current Job Opportunity
We require a reliable Power Press Operator for our high paced workshop.
Your average day:
· 7:15 – arrive at work.
· 7:30 – start the day by checking in with our production manager to see what orders you will be running. Begin running the press for the day.
· 10:00 – morning break.
· 10:15 – back to work. The jobs that will be sent out today will be confirmed and you will need to ensure that they are finished before collection time.
· 12:30 – lunch break. On Thursday each week we have hot breakfast cob and once a month a chippy lunch!
· 13:00 – back to work running the press
· 15:00 – afternoon break
· 15:15 – back to work
· 16:30 – end of day
You will be on a 12-week probationary period where we will work closely with you and assess if you’re a cultural fit for us and us for you! No prior experience is necessary—only a desire to succeed and a willingness to learn.
What you’ll be doing:
- Packing metal parts into boxes, which you then strap and stack onto pallets ready for distribution
- Feeding the steel into the press and manoeuvring coils
- Spotting any defects and reporting them back to the production manager
- Ensuring equipment is oiled regularly where necessary
- Attention to the detail of the whole process to ensure press runs efficiently and safely
- Learning how to troubleshoot the production line when things go wrong
- Filling in basic paperwork post-job to maintain accurate records
- Keeping a safe and tidy work environment
- Focus and maintaining workflow
- Helping the team wherever possible
- Adherence to Health and Safety procedures
- Preparing a press for various jobs by carrying out tool changeovers (having received adequate instruction).
What we expect from you:
- Be able to carry out extensive manual handling and heavy lifting throughout the day – this is vital! This is a physically demanding role therefore it is crucial that you are fit. As such, safe manual handling methods are vital and must be maintained consistently.
- Understand and implement personal and company safety measures including always using the correct PPE
- Have great communication skills, they are essential to work with team members
- Possess the ability to stay focused for long periods of time in a noisy environment
- Ability to remain calm under pressure and resolve issues quickly
- Ability to work independently, show initiative, and prioritise tasks in a fast-paced environment
- Be confident to speak up in meetings
- Be well presented with good dress and demeanour
- Desirable to have a good understanding of the set-up, operation and maintenance of power presses (30t-55t)
- Forklift licence is also a desirable skill

Our working hours are Monday – Thursday 7:30am – 4:30pm, 34 hours per week.
Starting Salary: £15 per hour, £26,520 pa.
Any overtime would only occur during Monday – Thursday. Friday, Saturday & Sunday is your time, and you will never be asked to work these.
