Job Overview
Gower View Foods is seeking a reliable and detail-focused Quality Controller to support food safety, quality and legal compliance across our dairy manufacturing operation.
The successful candidate will carry out routine quality checks throughout production, verify that products meet specification and maintain accurate records. You will work closely with the Production, Technical and Hygiene teams to identify and address any quality or food safety concerns.
This is a practical, factory-based role suited to someone with previous experience in food manufacturing, quality control or a similar technical environment. Training will be provided where required.
Key Responsibilities
- Complete scheduled quality checks on raw materials, packaging, work-in-progress and finished products.
- Carry out product testing, including temperature, pH, weight, seal integrity, coding, appearance and other specification checks.
- Verify that products are manufactured and packed in accordance with approved product specifications and procedures.
- Monitor compliance with HACCP controls, prerequisite programmes and site food safety procedures.
- Complete production line start-up checks, routine inspections and end-of-run checks.
- Identify and report product, process, hygiene or packaging non-conformances.
- Place affected materials or products on hold when required and escalate concerns to the Technical or Production Manager.
- Support investigations into quality issues, complaints and process deviations.
- Maintain accurate, legible and complete quality records to provide full traceability.
- Carry out environmental, product, water or hygiene sampling in accordance with the site sampling schedule.
- Check that monitoring and testing equipment is clean, suitable for use and within calibration.
- Support internal audits, traceability exercises, factory inspections and customer or certification audits.
- Verify standards of hygiene, housekeeping, allergen control, foreign-body control and staff practices within production areas.
- Communicate quality concerns clearly to production teams and support timely corrective action.
- Follow all site health and safety, food safety, hygiene and personal protective equipment requirements.
Experience and Skills
- Previous experience in quality control, food manufacturing, dairy production or a similar environment is preferred.
- A basic understanding of HACCP, food hygiene and quality assurance principles is desirable.
- Good attention to detail and the ability to identify deviations from agreed standards.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to complete records accurately and clearly.
- Confidence working with production teams and raising concerns when standards are not met.
- Ability to work independently, prioritise tasks and manage routine quality checks.
- Basic computer skills, including the use of Microsoft Excel and electronic record systems, are desirable.
- A Level 2 Food Safety qualification or similar certification would be advantageous but is not essential.
