Job Summary
The Transport Dispatch Coordinator is responsible for executing daily transport plans, allocating vehicles and monitoring live transport operations. The role coordinates planning teams, sorting centres, carriers and drivers to maintain sufficient capacity, resolve operational exceptions and achieve on-time performance.
Key Responsibilities
Transport Planning and Dispatch
- Receive scheduled and ad-hoc transport requirements from planning teams, sorting centres and depots.
- Prepare daily transport plans based on shipment volumes, routes and available vehicle capacity.
- Allocate suitable vehicles, including 44T, 18T, 7.5T and vans, across long- and short-distance routes.
- Coordinate vehicle arrival, loading, departure and delivery schedules.
Live Operations and Exception Management
- Monitor vehicle locations, journey progress and transport performance through dispatch and GPS tracking systems.
- Maintain regular communication with carriers and drivers regarding vehicle and route status.
- Respond to delays, breakdowns, driver absences, vehicle shortages and other transport exceptions.
- Adjust dispatch plans and arrange alternative resources to minimise service disruption.
- Support contingency planning during peak periods, severe weather and other operational emergencies.
Stakeholder Coordination
- Coordinate daily execution between planning teams, sorting centres, carriers and drivers.
- Communicate transport status, operational issues and recovery plans to relevant stakeholders.
- Ensure all parties understand and follow the agreed transport plan.
- Escalate major risks or unresolved exceptions in a timely manner.
Performance Monitoring
- Monitor completion rates, on-time performance, vehicle utilisation and transport exceptions.
- Record operational failures and support follow-up actions with carriers.
- Identify recurring dispatch issues and recommend process improvements.
RequirementsExperience
- Previous experience in transport dispatch, linehaul operations, fleet coordination or logistics operations.
- Experience within parcel delivery, courier, express delivery, transportation or third-party logistics is preferred.
- Experience coordinating multiple carriers, drivers and vehicle types is desirable.

- Strong transport planning, vehicle allocation and route coordination skills.
- Ability to monitor live operations and make timely decisions under pressure.
- Strong problem-solving and contingency-management skills.
- Excellent communication and multi-party coordination skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Proficiency in dispatch systems, GPS tracking tools and Microsoft Office.
- Mandarin Chinese language skills are preferred.
Other Requirements
- Willingness to work rotating day and night shifts.
- The successful candidate will initially be based in Birmingham for approximately one to two months of training and onboarding.
- The role may subsequently be assigned to another transport hub, including London, based on operational requirements.
