Apprentice CAD TechnicianPurpose of Role
- To support the CAD team in the design and development of modular bathroom pods in both composite materials and steel.
- To develop knowledge and practical skills in Computer Aided Design (CAD) through a structured apprenticeship programme.
- To assist with the production and maintenance of technical drawings, manufacturing information and project documentation under the guidance of experienced team members.
- To contribute to new product developments whilst learning best practice design techniques and Design for Manufacture (DfM) principles.
- To gain an understanding of the company's products, manufacturing processes and quality standards whilst working towards a recognised qualification.
Role Requirements
- Learn to use Revit, AutoCAD and other relevant 2D and 3D design software.
- Assist in interpreting client drawings, specifications and project requirements.
- Support the production of technically accurate layout drawings for client approval.
- Assist in producing trade-specific and sub-assembly drawings for production and manufacturing.
- Update drawings and associated project information as instructed.
- Learn engineering drawing standards and company drafting procedures.
- Work closely with experienced CAD Technicians to develop technical knowledge and practical skills.
- Participate in design reviews and team meetings to support learning and continuous improvement.
- Develop an understanding of modular construction methods, manufacturing processes and engineering principles.
- Maintain accurate records and organise project documentation.
- Manage workload effectively with support from supervisors and mentors.
- Follow company policies, procedures and Health & Safety requirements at all times.
- Ensure all work is completed in accordance with company quality standards and regulatory requirements.
- Demonstrate a positive attitude towards learning, teamwork and personal development.
- Attend college or training provider sessions and complete all apprenticeship coursework and assessments within required timescales.
Qualifications and ExperienceEssential
- GCSEs (or equivalent) including Mathematics and English (Grade 4/C or above preferred).
- A genuine interest in engineering, construction, manufacturing or Computer Aided Design.
- Good IT skills and willingness to learn new software packages.
- Good communication and organisational skills.
- A proactive attitude and willingness to learn.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
- Good attention to detail and willingness to produce accurate work.
Desirable
- Previous experience using CAD software such as Revit or AutoCAD (through education, work experience or personal projects).
- Engineering, Construction, Design Technology or similar qualifications.
- An understanding of manufacturing or construction processes.
Training and Development
Walker Modular will support the successful candidate through an approved apprenticeship programme, providing:
- Structured on-the-job training.
- Support from experienced CAD Technicians and the CAD Manager.
- Opportunities to gain experience across a variety of projects.
- Ongoing feedback and mentoring.
- Time to attend college or apprenticeship training where applicable.
- Opportunities for career progression upon successful completion of the apprenticeship.
Salary
Salary will be in line with the Apprentice National Minimum Wage (or above) and will be discussed at interview.
Hours of Work
- Monday to Thursday: 08:00 – 17:00 (30-minute lunch break)
- Friday: 08:00 – 13:00
