Drug & Alcohol Recovery Practitioner (Reach Out)
Location: The Bus Shelter Dorset, Mount Pleasant Park and Ride, Mercery Road, Weymouth, DT3 5GD
Salary: £31,200 per annum (based on 37.5 hours per week)
Hours: 37.5 hours per week (flexible to meet the needs of the service)
Annual Leave: 6.6 weeks per year (inclusive of bank holidays)

The Bus Shelter Dorset is an award-winning charity providing safe accommodation and intensive support for people experiencing homelessness or at risk of homelessness. In 2022 we were honoured to receive the Queen's Award for Voluntary Service in recognition of our work.

The Role
We are looking for an experienced and passionate Drug & Alcohol Recovery Practitioner to join our Reach Out partnership. Working alongside Waythrough and our dedicated team, you will support individuals with complex needs to access treatment, reduce harm, and begin or continue their recovery journey.
This is an exciting opportunity to make a real difference by providing trauma-informed, strengths-based support to people experiencing homelessness, substance misuse, and multiple disadvantage.
What You'll Be Doing
- Completing strength-based assessments and developing personalised recovery plans.
- Supporting individuals to engage with drug and alcohol treatment and other specialist services.
- Building positive, trusting relationships with clients.
- Providing harm reduction advice and recovery-focused interventions.
- Advocating for clients and accompanying them to appointments where required.
- Working closely with housing, health, mental health, criminal justice and community partners.
- Attending and contributing to weekly multidisciplinary meetings.
- Maintaining accurate records and case management systems.
- Supporting people in a compassionate, non-judgemental and trauma-informed way.
What We're Looking For
We're looking for someone who has:
- Experience supporting people affected by substance misuse and complex needs.
- A good understanding of recovery, harm reduction and trauma-informed practice.
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
- The ability to work independently while being a strong team player.
- Experience working with partner agencies and advocating for vulnerable individuals.
- Strong IT and record-keeping skills.
- A full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle.
An NVQ Level 3 in Health & Social Care (or willingness to work towards one) and experience within substance misuse services would be advantageous.
