Spencer Quantum Ltd, a member of RSK Group, is a long established multi-disciplinary company with its land management division, and its geotechnical & geoenvironmental contractor and consultant division. Due to continued growth we now have a unique opportunity for a Company Fleet Manager to assist with the day to day management of over seventy vehicles including our HGV and trailer fleet. Full time, but part time also considered.
The successful candidate will be responsible for the strategic, compliant, and cost‑effective management of the company’s vehicle fleet. This includes assisting with vehicle procurement, maintenance, utilisation, driver performance, regulatory compliance, and operational efficiency. The role ensures the fleet operates safely, reliably, and in line with UK legislation, industry standards, and company policies.
Key Responsibilities:
Fleet Operations & Management
- Oversee and co-ordinate with the company’s Operations Director, the day‑to‑day management of all company vehicles (cars, vans & HGVs).
- Plan and coordinate vehicle utilisation to maximise efficiency and minimise downtime.
- Manage vehicle allocation, scheduling, and replacement cycles.
- Work in tandem with Company Administration Manager to maintain accurate fleet records, including mileage, servicing, MOT, tax, insurance, and defect reporting.
Compliance & Safety
- Ensure full compliance with UK transport legislation, including DVSA regulations, Operator Licence requirements, Working Time Directive / Drivers’ Hours rules, and the Health & Safety at Work Act.
- Implement and monitor vehicle safety policies, driver behaviour standards, and incident reporting procedures.
- Conduct regular audits of vehicle condition, documentation, and driver compliance.
Maintenance & Repairs
- Manage planned and reactive maintenance schedules.
- Consult with the company’s internal fleet and HGV workshop senior staff
- Ensure all vehicles meet roadworthiness standards and are serviced on time.
- Oversee breakdown response and recovery processes.
Cost Control & Procurement
- Assist in the management of fleet budgets, including fuel, maintenance, leasing, insurance, and replacement costs.
- Analyse fleet performance data to identify cost‑saving opportunities.
- Lead procurement of new vehicles, negotiating contracts with suppliers and leasing companies.
- Evaluate and implement telematics, tracking systems, and fleet technology.
Driver Management
- Manage driver performance, including fuel efficiency, safety, and compliance.
- Investigate accidents, incidents, and near misses; implement corrective actions.
Sustainability & Strategy
- Develop long‑term fleet strategy aligned with company goals.
- Lead initiatives to reduce emissions, improve fuel efficiency, and long term selective transition to EVs or low‑emission vehicles.
- Monitor industry trends and regulatory changes affecting fleet operations.
Skills, Experience & Qualifications
Essential
- Proven experience in fleet management or transport operations within the UK.
- Strong knowledge of UK transport legislation and compliance requirements, particularly Operator’s Licence knowledge
- Excellent organisational and planning skills.
- Competent in fleet management systems and Microsoft Office.
- Effective communication and leadership abilities.
- Full UK driving licence.
Desirable
- CPC (Certificate of Professional Competence) – Transport Manager.
- Experience managing an Operator Licence
- Knowledge of HGV or specialist vehicle operations.
- Experience implementing sustainability or EV transition strategies.

- Renumeration is commensurate with experience, typically £38k + full time
