Interventions Alliance Approved Premises provide structured support and monitoring for people under probation supervision living in the community. Our Bristol premises supports women returning to the community from prison, helping them to rehabilitate, reduce reoffending, and build positive, independent lives.
We are delighted to offer an exciting new volunteer opportunity for a Resident Support Volunteer. This role is ideal for someone with strong communication skills and a high level of empathy who can build effective, supportive relationships with women transitioning back into the community.
The Role
Resident Support Volunteers play a vital role in supporting staff to deliver engaging projects and activities that promote residents’ health, wellbeing, and personal development. Volunteers help residents develop new skills, hobbies, and positive routines, supporting them to build healthier lifestyles and reduce the risk of reoffending.
This is a rewarding role that makes a meaningful difference to the lives of women living in an Approved Premises. In return for your time and commitment, Interventions Alliance offers comprehensive training, paid expenses, and ongoing support and supervision from a dedicated Volunteer Coordinator. You will also gain valuable insight into the Criminal Justice Sector and opportunities to shadow experienced professionals.
key Tasks and Responsibilities
As a Resident Support Volunteer, you may:
- Engage residents in creative, educational, and wellbeing-focused activities
- Provide mentoring-style support to help residents build independence (e.g. completing benefit forms)
- Support residents to attend appointments where appropriate

Requirements
Essential
- Applicants must be women only, due to the gender-specific nature of the service. This is a Genuine Occupational Requirement in accordance with Schedule 9, Paragraph 1 of the Equality Act 2010
- Good literacy and numeracy skills
- Understanding of safeguarding principles
- Ability to work independently without direct supervision
- Availability for a minimum of 3 hours per week during office hours (9am–5pm)
- Good IT skills, as the role includes administrative tasks
- Reliable, punctual, and able to communicate effectively
- Must be over 21
Desirable
- Knowledge or experience of working within the Criminal Justice System

Additional Information
- A minimum 6-month commitment is required following completion of vetting and training
