ABOUT US
Since 1986, Yummies Deli has been a home on the Mill Hill high street — a Jewish-style bagel bakery, delicatessen and patisserie created with passion and rooted in our community. We hand-boil and bake our own bagels every day, carve our own smoked salmon, and our team bakes fresh challah, Danish pastries, cakes and biscuits from scratch. Our customers aren’t just customers — many have been coming to us for decades. That’s the kind of place we are, and the kind of team member we’re looking for.
THE ROLE
You’ll be the face of Yummies — serving customers at the counter and till, keeping the deli looking its best, sharing your product knowledge, and making every visit feel like a proper local experience. No two shifts are the same: you might be slicing smoked salmon, explaining the difference between a latke and a blini or helping a customer choose the right pastry for a family gathering. You’ll work across all front-of-house areas and support colleagues across both the floor and kitchen team through busy periods.
WHAT YOU’LL DO DAY TO DAY
- Serve customers warmly and efficiently at the counter and till
- Engage confidently with customers — answering questions, making recommendations and building regulars
- Keep the deli counter and front-of-house areas beautifully presented throughout the day
- Replenish displays, rotate stock and remove any out-of-spec items
- Follow allergen and food safety procedures carefully at all times
- Support colleagues across counter service, drinks, replenishment and kitchen as needed
- Maintain excellent standards in personal presentation and hygiene
WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR
- A genuine warmth and love of people — this is a customer-facing role and it shows
- Previous customer-facing or hospitality experience (retail, café, deli, restaurant)
- Curiosity about food — you don’t need to know everything, but you need to want to learn
- Reliable, punctual and consistent — our customers count on us
- Calm and composed under pressure during busy periods
- Good communication skills and a team-first attitude
- Ability to work weekends and public holidays as part of a rota
