Job Title: Special Educational Needs (SEN) Teaching Assistant – Alternative Provision
Location: Redruth, Cornwall
Hours: Monday to Thursday, 8:30am – 3:00pm | Friday, 8:30am – 3:30pm
Start Date: ASAP Driving Licence: Essential (outreach work involved)

- About the Role You’ll work closely with pupils who have a range of Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), including SEMH, ASD, ADHD, and additional learning needs. Through one-to-one and small group support, you’ll help create a safe, nurturing environment where every student feels understood, supported, and empowered. This role also includes outreach work, so you’ll need to be adaptable, proactive, and confident working in a variety of settings.
- Key Responsibilities Provide tailored one-to-one and small group support Help pupils access learning in ways that suit their individual needs Support emotional regulation and encourage positive behaviour Implement behaviour support strategies and de-escalation techniques Foster confidence, independence, and social skills Assist in planning and delivering engaging, differentiated lessons Adapt resources to meet diverse learning styles and abilities Support vocational, practical, and outdoor learning activities Monitor and record progress, behaviour, and wellbeing
- Pastoral & Safeguarding Build strong, trusting relationships with pupils, particularly those with trauma or disrupted education Support during transitions and less structured parts of the day Uphold safeguarding, health & safety, and school policies at all times Collaborate with teachers, SENCOs, therapists, and external professionals
- About You Experience working with children or young people with SEN (especially in alternative or specialist settings) Calm, patient, and resilient approach Confident managing challenging behaviour in a positive and safe way Strong communication and teamwork skills Passionate about inclusion, wellbeing, and making a difference
- Desirable (but not essential) Training or experience in SEMH, ASD, or trauma-informed practice Relevant qualifications (Level 2/3 Teaching Assistant, CACHE, or similar) Experience within an Alternative Provision setting
