Healthcare Assistant (HCA) – The Newman Practice

Hours: Part-time – 17-20 hours per week
Salary: £14.00 to £16.00 per hour depending on experience

We are seeking a motivated and compassionate Healthcare Assistant (HCA) to join our busy and supportive GP practice. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced HCA to play a key role in delivering high-quality patient care within a modern primary care setting.
Working alongside our GPs, nurses, and wider multidisciplinary team, you will support patients with a range of clinical procedures, health promotion activities, and long-term condition monitoring.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be expected to:
Clinical Duties
- Record blood pressure, pulse, height, weight, and BMI.
- Perform venepuncture and specimen collection.
- Carry out ECGs.
- Undertake smoking cessation and lifestyle advice where appropriate.
- Support chronic disease monitoring clinics under the direction of the nursing team.
- Perform urinalysis and basic diagnostic testing.
- Administer vaccinations and injections where appropriately trained and authorised.
- Chaperone patients during examinations and procedures.
- Prepare and maintain clinical rooms and equipment.
Patient Care
- Promote health and wellbeing through patient education.
- Assist patients with accessing appropriate services.
- Provide a caring, professional, and patient-centred service at all times.
- Maintain patient dignity, confidentiality, and privacy.
Administrative Duties
- Accurately record clinical information within the patient record.
- Manage laboratory samples and ensure appropriate handling.
- Monitor stock levels and order clinical supplies as required.
- Participate in practice audits and quality improvement initiatives.
- Support infection prevention and control procedures.
Essential Criteria
- NVQ Level 3 in Health and Social Care (or equivalent) or willingness to work towards.
- Experience working as a Healthcare Assistant in a healthcare setting.
- Competent in venepuncture.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
- Basic IT skills and confidence using clinical systems.
- Understanding of confidentiality and data protection requirements.
Desirable Criteria
- Previous experience in General Practice.
- Knowledge of chronic disease management.
- Experience using clinical systems such as TPP SystmOne
- Care Certificate qualification.
