Warehouse Despatch Operative
Based in Newcastle-Under-Lyme.
Salary £26,000.00 Per Annum
26 days holidays (plus bank holidays)
RCM, a member of the Benx Group and one of the UK’s leading suppliers of specialist building boards, facades, and through-wall solutions, are seeking an experienced Warehouse Despatch Operative to join our Operations Department.
Reporting to the Production Foreman, the successful candidate will be responsible for the accurate picking, packing, storage, labelling, quality checking and despatch of products, ensuring orders are completed safely, correctly and on time.
Key responsibilities include;
Picking & Despatch
· Pick products accurately against customer orders, picking lists or system-generated instructions.
· Ensure the correct product, quantity and specification are selected.
· Prioritise work in line with despatch deadlines and operational requirements.
· Report stock shortages, discrepancies or damaged products promptly.
· Prepare completed orders for collection or onward transportation.
· Ensure orders are consolidated correctly and ready by the required despatch time.
· Complete final checks to confirm the correct goods, quantities, packaging, labels and documentation.
· Liaise with colleagues, drivers and hauliers as required to support efficient collections.
· Load or assist with loading vehicles safely where required.
· Ensure despatched goods and associated paperwork/system transactions are accurately recorded.
Packing & Labelling
· Pack products securely and appropriately for transport, taking account of product type, weight and destination.
· Ensure packaging provides suitable protection while avoiding unnecessary waste.
· Apply product, customer, carrier and despatch labels accurately.
· Check that all required paperwork and documentation accompanies each shipment.
· Ensure packages are clearly and correctly identified before despatch.
Storage & Stock Control
· Put away and store products safely in designated warehouse locations.
· Maintain an organised warehouse and ensure products are stored in a way that prevents damage, contamination or deterioration.
· Assist with stock counts and inventory checks as required.
· Identify and report stock discrepancies.
Quality Control Support
· Carry out visual and basic quality checks on products during picking, packing and despatch.
· Check products for damage, defects, incorrect quantities, labelling issues or other non-conformances.
· Ensure only products meeting the required quality standard are released for despatch.
· Quarantine or escalate products where quality concerns are identified.
· Maintain accurate records of quality issues where required.
Warehouse Standards & Safety
· Maintain a clean, safe and well-organised working environment.
· Follow all site health and safety procedures and safe systems of work.
· Use warehouse equipment safely and only where appropriately trained and authorised.
· Identify and report hazards, damaged equipment, unsafe practices or incidents.
· Handle and move products safely, following manual handling procedures.
Experience/knowledge required;
· Counterbalance forklift licence required
· Good attention to detail and a strong focus on accuracy.
· Ability to work methodically in a busy warehouse environment.
· Good organisational and time-management skills.
· Ability to follow picking, packing, quality and despatch procedures.
· Basic numeracy and literacy skills.
· Comfortable using basic computerised systems or handheld warehouse equipment.
· Able to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
· Physically able to undertake the handling, movement and packing activities associated with the role.
