An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Locum Consultant in Palliative Medicine to join an established Specialist Palliative Care service in Wales for an initial 3-month contract.
The successful candidate will work alongside an experienced team of consultants and resident medical staff, providing consultant-led specialist palliative care across hospital services while collaborating closely with community teams, specialist nurses and allied healthcare professionals. The post offers opportunities to support symptom management, end-of-life care, rehabilitation, education, research and service development within a highly supportive multidisciplinary environment.
- Deliver consultant-led specialist palliative medicine services across hospital-based settings.
- Provide expert assessment and management of patients with complex palliative care needs.
- Lead symptom control, rehabilitation and end-of-life care planning.
- Participate in the consultant on-call rota, providing specialist telephone advice and supporting junior medical staff.
- Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary hospital, community and primary care teams to ensure seamless patient care.
- Support multidisciplinary team meetings, cancer pathways and specialist case discussions.
- Provide supervision, teaching and educational support to undergraduate and postgraduate learners.
- Act as an Educational Supervisor where appropriate.
- Participate in clinical governance, audit, quality improvement and research projects.
- Contribute to the development of clinical guidelines, care pathways and specialist palliative care services.
- Maintain Continuing Professional Development (CPD), appraisal and revalidation requirements.

- Full GMC Registration with Licence to Practise.
- MRCP.
- Eligibility to work as a Consultant in Palliative Medicine.
- Entry onto the GMC Specialist Register in Palliative Medicine or eligibility for CCT within six months.
- Further relevant postgraduate degree or diploma.
- Teaching qualification or higher qualification in Medical Education.
- Experience delivering Specialist Palliative Medicine services.
- Excellent leadership and multidisciplinary team-working skills.
- Advanced communication and interpersonal skills.
- Experience working collaboratively with management and clinical teams to improve services.
- Evidence of teaching and training undergraduate and postgraduate healthcare professionals.
- Experience undertaking clinical audit and quality improvement.
- Good understanding of healthcare information systems and technology.
- Experience in service improvement methodologies.
- Ability to participate in the consultant on-call rota.
