Industrial/Furniture Upholstery Sewing Machinist
About the Role
We are seeking an experienced and reliable Upholstery Sewing Machinist to join our production team. The successful candidate will be responsible for sewing and assembling upholstery components for furniture using industrial sewing machines, ensuring high standards of quality and workmanship.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate industrial sewing machines to manufacture upholstery covers and components.
- Sew a variety of materials including fabrics, vinyl’s, leather, and synthetic materials.
- Read and interpret work orders, patterns, and production specifications.
- Inspect materials and finished products to ensure quality standards are met.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organised work area.
- Work closely with upholsterers and production staff to meet deadlines and production targets.
- Perform routine maintenance and basic troubleshooting of sewing equipment.
Requirements
- Previous experience operating industrial sewing machines in furniture upholstery, automotive trimming, marine upholstery, or a related field.
- Strong knowledge of upholstery fabrics, leather, and other covering materials.
- Ability to sew straight, accurate seams and produce high-quality work.
- Good attention to detail and quality control.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Reliable, punctual, and committed to maintaining production schedules.
Desirable Skills
- Experience with walking-foot and double-needle sewing machines.
- Pattern matching and cutting experience.
- Knowledge of furniture manufacturing processes.
- Ability to work from technical drawings and templates.
