Reports to: Head Housekeeper
Purpose of the Role
The Housekeeper is responsible for maintaining the highest standards of cleanliness, hygiene, and presentation across all areas of the Home. The role ensures a clean, safe, and comfortable environment for residents, staff, and visitors while supporting infection control and the overall wellbeing of those in the Home.
Core Responsibilities
Cleaning and Housekeeping
- Maintain bedrooms, bathrooms, corridors, and public areas to a high standard of cleanliness and hygiene.
- Perform daily cleaning duties, including emptying bins, vacuuming, mopping, making beds, and cleaning lounges, dining rooms, and lavatories.
- Complete weekly deep cleans, including dusting, polishing, washing floors, shampooing carpets, and cleaning light fittings and furniture.
- Replenish toiletries, towels, and other supplies as required.
- Ensure efficient and economical use of cleaning materials and equipment.
- Keep storage and cleaning areas tidy, organised, and well stocked.
- Assist with linen room duties as requested.
Laundry Operations
- Operate commercial laundry and pressing equipment safely and effectively.
- Sort, wash, dry, and iron laundry, ensuring clean and dirty items are handled and stored separately.
- Process bedding, towels, personal laundry, and other linens in priority order.
- Label unmarked clothing and ensure items are returned to the correct residents.
- Inspect items for stains or damage and ensure a high-quality finish.
- Use laundry supplies efficiently and maintain cleanliness of the laundry area.
Health, Safety, and Compliance
- Adhere to infection control, health and safety, and fire procedures at all times.
- Handle cleaning agents, chemicals, and equipment safely and in accordance with COSHH regulations.
- Report hazards, faulty equipment, or maintenance issues promptly.
- Follow the Home’s waste disposal and safeguarding policies.
- Promote safe working practices and contribute to maintaining a hazard-free environment.
Communication and Teamwork
- Inform the Head Housekeeper of any special cleaning requirements or issues.
- Participate in staff and resident meetings as required.
- Work collaboratively with other departments to ensure a clean and welcoming environment.
Training and Development
- Attend mandatory training and refresher courses as required.
- Maintain professional knowledge of cleaning methods, hygiene, and infection control standards.
General Responsibilities
- Uphold the Home’s reputation by providing excellent service and maintaining confidentiality at all times.
- Report sickness, absence, or incidents promptly in line with company procedures.
- Support safeguarding by recognising and reporting any concerns regarding residents’ wellbeing.
- Ensure security of the Home and safe storage of equipment and supplies.
- Carry out any other reasonable tasks as directed by the Head Housekeeper or Home Manager.
Skills and Qualifications
- Previous experience in a similar housekeeping or cleaning role.
- Understanding of cleaning methods, equipment, and materials.
- Positive, flexible, and team-oriented approach.
- Strong initiative, self-motivation, and attention to detail.
- Caring attitude and respect for residents’ dignity and privacy.
- Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Basic digital competence and record-keeping skills.

Pay: £12.75 per hour
