Here at Howdens we're looking for a Payroll Administrator on a fixed term contract until the end of 2026 to help ensure our employees are paid accurately, on time, and in line with current legislation. Based within a busy and supportive payroll function, you'll play a key role in processing payroll transactions, resolving queries, and maintaining the high standards of service our colleagues across the business rely upon.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone with Workday payroll administration experience who enjoys working with data, thrives on accuracy, and takes pride in delivering a first-class service.
What will I be doing?
Processing payroll changes including starters, leavers, salary amendments, allowances and deductions within Workday.
Administering statutory payments and deductions, including SSP, SMP, PAYE and National Insurance.
Processing tax code changes and relevant payroll documentation.
Generating, checking and processing weekly timesheets.
Performing payroll audits and checks to ensure payroll data is accurate and compliant.
Supporting payroll year-end activities and assisting with audit requirements when required.
Investigating and resolving payroll queries from employees and stakeholders across the business.
Identifying and resolving issues that could impact the accurate and timely delivery of payroll.
Working closely with colleagues across Payroll, HR and the wider business to provide an excellent customer experience.
Keeping up to date with payroll legislation and best practice.
What do we need from you?
Previous payroll administration and processing experience within Workday is essential.
Good understanding of payroll procedures and HMRC legislation.
Strong attention to detail with a commitment to accuracy.
Excellent organisational and prioritisation skills.
Confident using Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
Strong communication skills with the ability to build effective working relationships at all levels.
A proactive approach to problem solving and continuous improvement.
Ability to work effectively under pressure and meet deadlines.
A positive, flexible and team-focused attitude.
Experience working in a retail, manufacturing or similar fast-paced environment would be desirable.
