We are looking for enthusiastic and motivated people to join our busy post and portering team. As a member of this close-knit team, you will be responsible for portering tasks within the University. It's a busy and active role, with a lot of variety, across two busy campuses where you will be communicating with colleagues and students on a regular basis. During busy times, you can also further develop your skills by assisting the post team on our busy reception.
The job will include:
Helping to move goods, equipment, and supplies throughout the university
Delivering items to different departments or locations as needed
Responding to requests for furniture or equipment relocation within the premises
Ensuring the safe handling and transport of waste including furniture, electrical items, food recycling and confidential waste
Receiving, sorting and delivery of incoming and outgoing mail and parcels
Driving University vehicles
Work takes place in shifts between 07:00 and 17:00 Monday-Friday so you will need to be available and flexible to work within these times. A rota is released a week in advance to let you know when you will be working.
Additionally, there is an occasional requirement to work at the weekend, but this is limited to 5 weekends in total across the year.
About you
We are looking for candidates with:
Physical fitness to handle lifting and moving of heavy objects or equipment
Good communication skills and the ability to work well within a team
Willingness to learn and adapt to new tasks and responsibilities
Reliable and punctual with a strong work ethic
Flexibility and adaptability to switch between roles as needed
Previous experience in a portering role is advantageous but not mandatory, as we will provide you with full training.
Please note, a full UK driving licence is essential for this role.
