About the Role
We are seeking an experienced and skilled Endodontist or Dentist with Special Interest (DWSI) in Endodontics ( Level 2 or Level 3 Accredited Endodontist ) to deliver NHS specialist care across our modern, well-equipped practices in Centre of Windsor and Reading.
NHS Level 2 Accreditation is required for this role or can be arranged by submission of portfolio to the NHS Accreditation Panel.
You will manage Level 2 or Level 3 complex endodontic cases referred from Level 1 general dental practitioners in the East and Westy Berkshire areas, working in a fully digital, state of the art modern, dental practice with microscope, specilaist equipments and in a clinical environment with strong clinical and administrative support. The role begins as one day per week at a single site, thereby available for two days in a week and will grow with referral demand, offering scope to increase sessions if needed, across both locations.

Job Summary
The Level 2 or 3 Endodontist provides enhanced high level primary care endodontics, managing patients with more complex root canal treatment needs that fall beyond Level 1 (general dental practice) but do not require specialist or hospital-based care. The role supports improved patient access, reduced waiting times, and high-quality clinical outcomes in line with NHS commissioning standards.
Key Responsibilities
Clinical
- Deliver Level 2 endodontic care, including management of moderately complex root canal cases and non-surgical re-treatment of failed endodontic cases
- Assess and triage incoming referrals
- Provide evidence-based care in line with NICE guidelines and NHS England commissioning standards
- Maintain accurate, contemporaneous clinical records
- Obtain valid informed consent and deliver patient-centred care
- Identify and escalate cases requiring Level 3 (specialist/hospital) services
Referral Management
- Accept and assess referrals from GDPs
- Communicate clearly with referring clinicians on treatment plans, outcomes, and follow-up
- Ensure appropriate discharge back to the referring practitioner
Person Specification
Essential
- NHS Level 2 Endodontic Accreditation -Will be supported if required
- BDS or equivalent dental qualification
- Full GDC registration
- NHS Performer Number or Equivalence
- Evidence of enhanced endodontic skills (postgraduate certificate/diploma or equivalent experience)
- Experience managing moderately complex endodontic cases
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
Desirable
- MSc or Diploma in Endodontics
- Experience working within NHS referral pathways
- Participation in audit, teaching, or research

Additional Information
This role operates within the NHS Level 2 commissioning framework, bridging the gap between general practice and specialist care. The postholder is expected to work within defined competencies and refer appropriately when cases exceed Level 2 complexity.
Sessions will start at one day per week at a single site (Windsor or Reading) and increase with demand across both locations. Initial commitment for one day per week or for two days a week if available if available for both sites in Windsor and Reading.
