Full-Time Cat Groomer
PURR Cat Grooming, Glasgow
Full-time, permanent
Living Wage Employer
Full paid training provided
Bupa private healthcare following successful completion of probation & training
You don't need to know how to groom a cat. We can teach you that.
PURR is a specialist cat-only grooming salon in Glasgow, and we're looking for someone to join our team full-time and train with us to become a professional cat groomer. Previous grooming experience isn't required. In fact, you don't necessarily need to have worked professionally with animals before. We're much more interested in finding the right person. Because while we can teach cat grooming, there are some things we can't teach.
We're looking for someone who is dependable, kind, calm under pressure, curious, conscientious and comfortable being taught and corrected. Someone who notices the little things, takes pride in doing a job properly and naturally mucks in when something needs done. Most importantly, we're looking for someone we genuinely trust around the cats in our care.
What does being a cat groomer actually involve?
You'll receive extensive hands-on training with the PURR team, gradually learning everything you need to work safely and independently as a professional cat groomer.
You'll learn about:
- Cat behaviour, body language and safe handling
- Coat and skin assessment
- Bathing and drying
- De-shedding and coat preparation
- Clipping and styling
- Nail and hygiene work
- Working safely with nervous and challenging cats
- Communicating with owners
- Managing your own appointments
- Maintaining an exceptionally clean and safe salon
It's an incredibly rewarding job. It's also physical, messy and occasionally involves being scratched, covered in cat hair or peed on. Sometimes all three. So we're looking for someone who wants the real job, not just the cute bits.
Who might be a great fit?
You might already work with animals. You might work in hospitality, retail, beauty, childcare, healthcare or something completely unrelated. You might have been trying to find a way into an animal-care career but haven't had the opportunity to gain formal experience. We're open. What matters much more to us is how you work.
We'd love to meet someone who:
- Can genuinely be relied upon
- Remains calm when things don't go to plan
- Is patient and gentle while still being confident
- Takes feedback well and wants to improve
- Has excellent attention to detail
- Is comfortable asking for help when they don't know something
- Takes initiative rather than waiting to be told every little thing
- Works well as part of a very small team
- Is comfortable dealing with people as well as cats
- Wants to develop a specialist skill and build a career with PURR
And yes, you should probably really like cats.
What you'll get from us
PURR is an accredited Living Wage Employer, and we believe that building an excellent team means investing in the people who work with us.
You'll receive:
A permanent, full-time position
Living Wage Employer pay
Full paid training in professional cat grooming
Structured progression towards independently managing your own grooming appointments
Bupa private healthcare after successfully completing your probation and training period
Ongoing professional development and specialist training
The opportunity to build a career in a growing specialist cat-grooming business
We're not looking for someone to come in already knowing everything. We're looking for someone worth investing in.
Our recruitment process
Because personality, attitude and team fit matter so much to us, our recruitment process is a little different.
Stage 1 — Tell us about yourself
You'll complete our online application. There are some practical questions, but we're much more interested in hearing about you than receiving the world's most impressive CV. We'll ask about how you work, what motivates you, how you learn and why this slightly unusual career has caught your attention.
Stage 2 — Let's have a chat
Shortlisted applicants will be invited to a relaxed video interview with members of the PURR team. This gives us the opportunity to get to know you properly — and gives you the opportunity to get to know us and ask questions too.
Stage 3 — Come to PURR
Final-stage applicants will be invited into the Glasgow salon for a paid practical assessment session. We're not going to ask you to magically groom a cat. Instead, we'll introduce you to the salon, let you experience what the job is actually like and do some safe, hands-on activities alongside our team. We're looking at how you learn, communicate, respond to instruction and interact with the salon environment — and, importantly, how we all get along in real life. It's as much an opportunity for you to decide whether PURR feels right for you as it is for us to decide whether you're right for PURR.
Still interested? Good. Don't worry about convincing us that you're already a cat groomer. Tell us why you think you could become a great one.
