We are recruiting on behalf of a children’s residential care provider seeking experienced Waking Night Residential Childcare Workers in Bognor Regis.
This is an active waking-night position. You will help provide a safe, calm and supportive environment for the young people living within the home. You will remain awake throughout your shift and respond to their individual needs, concerns and any incidents that arise during the night.
Main responsibilities
- Providing a safe and positive night-time experience for the young people
- Understanding each young person’s individual needs and night-time difficulties
- Following care plans, risk assessments and agreed night-time strategies
- Supporting young people with their bedtime routines and helping them to settle
- Maintaining clear, fair and consistent boundaries
- Responding calmly and appropriately to challenging behaviour or incidents
- Following safeguarding, child protection and whistleblowing procedures
- Attending handovers at the beginning and end of each shift
- Maintaining accurate logs of events, concerns, achievements and incidents
- Passing important information to day staff and managers
- Administering prescribed medication when required and recording it correctly
- Contacting the out-of-hours duty manager during emergencies or critical incidents
- Completing food preparation, cleaning, laundry and other domestic duties
- Following fire, health and safety and emergency procedures
- Providing cover for absent colleagues where possible
- Attending daytime supervision, team meetings and training when required
All duties must be completed in accordance with relevant legislation, the Children’s Homes Regulations and Quality Standards, safeguarding procedures and the provider’s policies.
Essential requirements
Applicants must:
- Have previous experience working within residential childcare
- Hold a full driving licence
- Have a good understanding of safeguarding and child protection
- Be able to remain awake, alert and responsive throughout the shift
- Remain calm and professional during challenging or unexpected situations
- Be able to maintain clear boundaries with young people
- Complete clear and accurate written records
- Be available to work weekends and bank holidays as part of the rota
- Already have the right to work in the UK without sponsorship
