JOB PURPOSE
Callander Youth Project Trust (CYP) is looking for an experienced fundraiser, with a flair for developing written applications, to secure an increased income from Trusts and Grants. With a meticulous attention to detail and previous experience in a similar role, the post holder will take responsibility for identifying, drafting and submitting grant applications to achieve income targets in line with organisational priorities. This will include identifying funding for specific projects in addition to more general core funds.
There will be a requirement to liaise closely with the staff team in relation to consultation and research to produce applications, in addition to reporting to funders.
THE ORGANISATION
CYP is a youth charity based in rural Stirlingshire. CYP provides a range of services to young people, aged 9-29, living within the McLaren High School catchment area. A wide variety of sessions are offered, spanning from weekly youth groups to 1-1 sessions with referred high school pupils and an annual summer activity programme. The charity also operates two social enterprises within Callander Hostel, offering holiday accommodation and function hire to guests. This enables CYP to offer a range of job opportunities, employability interventions and training opportunities for local young people.
THE VACANCY
This is a freelance position which offers the successful candidate an opportunity to influence the ongoing and long-term sustainability of a highly valued and respected organisation. This role would suit a dynamic, flexible and self-motivated individual who has a creative drive to develop it further.
Working as part of a small but committed, enthusiastic team, the Trust and Grants Fundraiser will have the flexibility to be home based in their role, working their hours in a flexible, but pre-agreed manner. This role will be a minimum of 20 hours per month.
PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Planning and Development
o In conjunction with the Manager, plan, implement and review an effective Fundraising strategy for CYP, acknowledging specific work plan targets which are related to this post
- Finance
o Responsibility of meeting agreed income targets and preparing budgets for funding applications
o Provide reports for internal stakeholders, primarily the Board of Directors and Management Team, on the progress of funding applications in relation to financial targets
- Applications to Trusts and Grants
o Research relevant funders, and liaise directly with them to discuss viable funding opportunities
o Identify new funding sources for existing work and where appropriate, ensure new initiatives and projects can also be developed
o Develop funding proposals to match donor interests and organisational need
o Write cases for support for applications, incorporating case studies, consultation feedback and evidence to strengthen the proposal. This will require liaising with the staff team
o Manage existing relationships with funders
o Maintain a comprehensive schedule for reporting and general stewardship ensuring appropriate and timely feedback and reports on successful funding applications
- Communication and Relationship Management
o Promote the positive impact of projects being delivered/supported by CYP in the community which are trust and grant funded
- Governance
o Assist in the preparation of relevant monitoring reports as required by the board
o Liaise with Trustees as and when necessary
o Ensure fundraising activity is carried out in accordance with current good practice and within charity law
o Keep up to date with local government legislation, charity law, national fundraising guidelines and CYP policies and procedures to ensure all fundraising activities are compliant

o Undertake all other reasonable duties as required by the organisation
SPECIAL FEATURES/ADDITIONAL DUTIES
o The organisation reserves the right to vary or amend the duties and responsibilities of the post-holder at any time according to the needs of the organisation’s business
o There may be a requirement to undertake additional hours on a flexible basis

PERSON SPECIFICATION (Essential)
o Skills & Abilities
- Excellent verbal and written communication
- Ability to relate to children and young people, as well as a range of professional staff
- Confident in the use of a variety of IT packages
- High level of ability to prepare budgets for funding proposals and report on spending
- Understanding of fundraising best practice and legislation, as well as current funder priorities
o Experience & Knowledge
- Extensive proven track record of successfully raising funds through written applications to small grant making bodies as well as large funders
- Good organisational and project management skills, in addition to evaluation and monitoring experience
- Experience of working under the Fundraising Code of Practice
o Personal Qualities
- Motivated to work for the social inclusion of children and young people
- Meticulous attention to detail
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- The ability to be flexible, diplomatic and assertive, with good negotiating skills
