Housekeeper & Household Assistant

About Us
We are a warm, friendly and busy family living in a beautiful rural home in Essex. We are looking for an experienced, capable and highly organised Housekeeper & Household Assistant to become a valued, long-term member of our household.
We are hoping to find someone who genuinely enjoys creating a calm, organised home and who takes pride in helping life run smoothly behind the scenes.
We value loyalty, kindness, initiative and people who quietly take ownership of their role. We have regular cleaners, so this is not primarily a cleaning position. Instead, we're looking for someone who enjoys taking responsibility for the day-to-day running of the house and is happy to roll up their sleeves whenever needed.
The Role
Working approximately 4 hours per day, Monday to Friday, you will play an important part in ensuring our home always feels welcoming, organised and well cared for. This is a varied role for someone who enjoys making life easier for others and takes satisfaction from noticing the small details that make a house run beautifully.
Household Organisation
- Keeping the kitchen, utility room, bedrooms, bathrooms and family living areas reset, tidy and organised each day.
- Ensuring the home always feels welcoming, calm and well cared for.
- Maintaining beautifully organised cupboards, wardrobes and storage areas.
- Preparing guest bedrooms and bathrooms before visitors arrive.
- Seasonal organisation and occasional cupboard clear-outs.
- Undertaking occasional deep-cleaning projects to maintain high standards throughout the home.
Laundry
Taking full ownership of all household laundry, including:
- Washing
- Ironing
- Stain treatment
- Caring appropriately for different fabrics
- Folding and putting away
- Wardrobe organisation
Laundry is an important part of this role, and we are looking for someone who enjoys keeping it running smoothly.
Food
- Preparing simple, fresh family meals.
- Baking and home cooking.
- Helping prepare food when entertaining or when guests are visiting.
Household Administration
Taking ownership of simple household administration, including:
- Placing Ocado and household orders.
- Ordering from local suppliers.
- Keeping shopping lists up to date.
- Booking cars in for servicing.
- Coordinating deliveries.
- Returning parcels.
- Organising dry cleaning.
- Occasionally, selling unwanted household items online.
- Helping with the many small jobs that keep a busy household running smoothly.
General
- Comfortable around dogs, and other animals, including occasional dog walking.
- Occasional flexibility to help when entertaining or guests are staying.
- Occasional house-sitting would be a bonus.
About You
You genuinely enjoy creating order and take pride in a beautifully run home. You naturally notice the small things that need doing and quietly get on with them without needing constant direction. You are likely to be:
- Warm, kind and trustworthy.
- Calm, discreet and professional.
- Quietly efficient rather than needing to be managed.
- Highly organised with excellent attention to detail.
- Confident working independently.
- Comfortable using a laptop and managing simple household administration.
- Someone who enjoys improving systems and finding better ways of doing things.
- Happy to use your own initiative while respecting how we like our home to run.
Above all, you're someone who enjoys making life easier for others and gains satisfaction from knowing everything is running smoothly.
Experience
You will have:
- At least two years' experience working in a private household, boutique hotel, chalet, yacht or similar environment.
A full driving licence is essential.
Hours
- Monday to Friday.
- Approximately 9.00–9.30am start.
- Around 4 hours per day.
- Live-out.
- Occasional additional hours by mutual agreement when entertaining or guests are staying.
