About the Role
We are seeking a dedicated and proactive Learning Support Assistant to provide high-quality academic and personal support to learners with severe learning difficulties and/or complex needs. The successful candidate will help ensure that all learners have the opportunity to achieve their full potential, develop independence, and successfully progress towards their education, employment, and life goals.
Working closely with teaching staff and support teams, you will play a key role in creating an inclusive and supportive learning environment that enables students to thrive.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide high-quality one-to-one, in-class, and small group support to learners with additional learning needs across a variety of learning environments.
- Work under the guidance of teaching staff to support learners in achieving their educational objectives.
- Plan, implement, and evaluate support strategies to measure their effectiveness and contribute to continuous service improvement.
- Support learners with personal care needs where required, including assistance with hoisting, toileting, feeding, and mobility.
- Assist with the safe movement of wheelchairs on-site and during approved off-site visits.
- Promote learner independence, confidence, and participation in educational activities.
- Ensure the voices and views of learners and staff contribute to the ongoing development of learning support services.
- Manage and contribute to small projects as directed by the Learning Manager to support service development and personal professional growth.
- Develop and maintain a strong understanding of learning difficulties, disabilities, barriers to learning, and effective support strategies.
- Work collaboratively with colleagues to create an inclusive and accessible learning experience for all students.
Person SpecificationEssential Requirements
- Maths and English qualifications at Level 2 or equivalent.
- Understanding of barriers to learning and practical strategies to overcome them.
- Knowledge of quality improvement processes and tools.
- Knowledge and/or experience of supporting individuals with disabilities and learning difficulties.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Commitment to promoting inclusion, equality, and learner independence.
Physical Requirements
- Where supporting learners with mobility needs, the ability to push wheelchairs for short distances on-site and during off-site activities.
- Ability to assist with personal care and mobility support responsibilities where required.
