About The Job
Salary: £ 39,862 to £ 47,181 per annum.
Working Pattern: Full time, 37 hours per week
Location: Hybrid working, requirement to be in Chichester at least once per week.
You will work on a range of strategic highways and transport projects by identifying solutions that will help to tackle climate change, economic performance and population growth.
You will work with communities and other partners to achieve the vision and objectives of the West Sussex Transport Plan.
In this role you will develop transport policies and use transport planning tools to critically analyse strategic transport issues, and identify and appraise potential solutions.
You will help set the direction for the County Council in its role as the Local Highway Authority, through;
- Preparation of transport policies and strategies.
- Giving transport advice on the impacts of development to inform local plans.
- Developing innovative solutions such as active travel or bus priority infrastructure to transport problems.
- Preparing business cases and external funding applications.
Experience and Skills
Key Skills:
- Ability to research, analyse and interpret complex and varied information by making connections between disparate issues and identifying potential solutions.
- Ability to work independently and proactively, and use good judgement to prioritise.
- Ability to communicate with other teams, stakeholders and consultees and communicate complex or sensitive information to different audiences.
- Ability to write sound and robust reports, articles and briefing papers.
- Ability to apply project management principles and practices to small projects.
- Ability to build credible working relationships with a range of stakeholders.
Qualifications and/or experience:
Degree (or equivalent qualification of experience) in Transport Planning, Town Planning or a related discipline appropriate to the role.
- Relevant chartered status, e.g. Chartered Transport Planning Professional, and professional membership e.g. Chartered Institution of Highways and Transportation.
- Postgraduate qualification in Transport Planning, Town Planning or a related discipline - Desirable
- Advanced theoretical and procedural knowledge in an appropriate specialist work area.
- Knowledge of external funding sources and their use to fund transport schemes.
- Knowledge of the customer base to support the development of transport policy and/or improvements.
- Knowledge of technical tools (e.g. transport models, Geographical
Information Systems) used in transport planning.
- Significant experience in an appropriate specialist work area.
- Substantial experience in project delivery and budget management.
This is a career grade post that provides an opportunity for career progression from Grade 10 to 11, subject to demonstrating the relevant competencies through regular performance conversations. Training and development opportunities will be supported, and the successful candidate will be encouraged to pursue professional accreditation from a relevant body such as the Chartered Institution of Highways and Transportation.
