This is a position is 36 hours per week Monday – Thursday 8.30am – 4.15pm & Friday 8.30am – 3.45pm, 38.2 weeks per year (term time only) on appointment.

Wilmslow High School has two small SEND classes in KS3 and KS4 for students whose complex learning difficulties mean that they require an alternative curriculum for English, Maths, Science and Life Skills, alongside the mainstream curriculum for practical subjects.
This is a specialist role working collaboratively with the Curriculum Team Leader – Learning Support, teaching staff and Learning Support Assistants in order to enhance the development and education of students, specifically for students in an identified house. You will work collaboratively with students, school staff, parents and external professionals to ensure that students’ individual SEND needs are being met within school and that they are provided with the support and strategies required to allow them to reach their full potential.
To provide supervision for whole classes of pupils, including cover supervision as appropriate, to maintain continuity of pupil’s learning.
You will teach small groups of students with Special Educational Needs ensuring their access to lessons and lesson content through appropriate clarification, explanations, equipment and materials.
You will have:
- Experience of working with young people with Special Educational Needs.
- An understanding of effective approaches to support them.
- Confidence in and knowledge of the core school curriculum

Job Description – Higher Level Teaching Assistant

Purpose of Post:
Within a framework prescribed by the school and in accordance with the aims and policies of the school, to undertake a specialist role working collaboratively with the Curriculum Team Leader – Learning Support, teaching staff and Learning Support Assistants in order to enhance the development and education of students specifically for students in an identified house. To provide supervision for whole classes of pupils, including cover supervision as appropriate, to maintain continuity of pupil’s learning.
Principal Duties
In relation to the individual student and groups of students
- To teach small groups of students with Special Educational Needs
- To develop an understanding of the special educational needs of the students and monitor the progression of these students specifically in an identified house.
- Within a framework prescribed by the school, to prepare, plan and implement individual, group and some whole class learning activities and intervention programmes across the whole school, working alongside and in conjunction with professional teaching staff.
- To take into account the student/s’ special needs and ensure their access to the lesson and its content through appropriate clarification, explanations, equipment and materials specifically in an identified house.
- To meet regularly with the head of House and student manager to discuss any progress issues, barriers to learning or attendance issues
- To support the Head of House in developing student support plans and evidencing impact of this support.
- To build and maintain successful relationships with students, treat them consistently, with respect and consideration.
- To help promote independent learning.
- To help reinforce learning.
- To assist students with physical needs.
- To help students record work in an appropriate way.
- To develop study and organisational skills.
- To help keep the students on task and to build motivation.
- To model good practice.
- To help build the student/s’ confidence and enhance self-esteem.
In relation to the Teacher:
- To analyse, monitor and track individual student progress through a range of assessmentand monitoring techniques; deliver student learning boost sessions for identified and specific areas of weakness; provide accurate assessments and reports on development to inform the class teacher’s decisions regarding Individual Education and Behaviour Plans for students
- To liaise with the specialist assessor to ensure that relevant tests are being used and thatthe results are correctly interpreted.
- To regularly review student information, including Pupil Passports, to ensure that teachers have the most up-to-date information.
- To prepare materials and resources.
- To prepare students beforehand for a task.
- To work on differentiated activities with identified groups.
- To support the teacher in implementing specific teaching programmes.
- To supervise practical tasks.
- To carry out structured classroom assessment/ observation and feedback outcomes.
- To be involved in keeping records and evaluating identified students’ progress.
In relation to the School:
- To monitor the operation of a designated group of Learning Support Assistants within the team.
- To assist the Curriculum Team Leader – Learning Support in day-to-day tasks relating to the effective operation of the team
- To assist the Curriculum Team Leaders and Heads of House with the provision for SEND students.
- To hold EHCP annual reviews and emergency reviews as necessary for named students (as named on the SEND register).
- To work as part of the team in relation to individual students, liaising, advising and consulting where appropriate.
- To support implementation of school policies and procedures, including those relating to confidentiality and behaviour.
- To attend staff and other meetings, to identify personal training needs and participate in staff training development work and staff reviews as required
- To contribute towards and deliver CPD to the Learning Support team and wider school.
- To attend Open Evenings and Parent Information Evenings as agreed with line managers.
Supervision arrangements:
- Termly formal review of performance with Line manager
- Regular meetings for team of LSAs (once a week)
- Observation of classroom support work by Line manager or other named person
