Overview
We’re looking for an experienced Senior Installation Engineer to join our team at West Wales Systems.
We provide IT and telecoms services to businesses and organisations across Pembrokeshire and Carmarthenshire, and this role sits at the heart of getting our installations delivered properly.
You’ll be a senior, hands-on member of our installation team, taking the lead on more complex jobs while helping plan and coordinate the day-to-day workload of the engineers around you.
This isn’t a desk-based management role. You’ll regularly be out on client sites installing structured cabling, fibre, CCTV, WiFi, networking and telecoms equipment, carrying out surveys, solving problems and making sure each job is completed to a standard you’re proud of.
Responsibilities
- Installing and terminating data, telecoms and fibre optic cabling
- Installing containment, trunking, conduit and sockets
- Installing and commissioning equipment including switches, routers, WiFi access points, CCTV cameras and telephones
- Testing and splicing fibre optic cabling
- Diagnosing and resolving installation, cabling and hardware faults
- Leading more complex installations and technical jobs
- Carrying out and overseeing site surveys
- Preparing scopes of work, risk assessments and method statements
- Helping plan, prioritise and coordinate installation work
- Providing day-to-day guidance and support to other engineers
- Making sure work is completed safely and to a consistently high standard
- Keeping clients informed and providing a friendly, professional experience while working on their premises
Requirements
We’re looking for somebody who is confident getting stuck into practical installation work and has the experience to take responsibility when a job becomes more complicated.
You should have:
- Strong experience with structured cabling, containment and general installation work
- Experience working with fibre optic cabling
- A practical, hands-on approach and confidence using tools, drilling and fixing
- Experience with risk assessments and method statements
- Good fault-finding and practical problem-solving skills
- Experience supervising, supporting or leading other engineers
- The ability to organise your own workload and help coordinate the work of others
- Experience with some of the technologies we work with, such as networking, WiFi, CCTV, fibre or telecoms
- Good communication and customer service skills
- Good computer literacy
- A full UK driving licence
You’ll also need to be comfortable working at height, outdoors and in the varied environments that come with installation work.
Just as importantly, we’re looking for someone who is reliable, honest and trustworthy, takes pride in their work and understands the importance of representing West Wales Systems professionally when working with our clients.
Working hours and location
You'll be based from our office at Haverfordwest Airport, with regular travel to client sites as required.
There will occasionally be out-of-hours or weekend work where a particular installation requires it.
Security screening
Because of the nature of the work we carry out, you must be able to obtain and maintain BS7858 security screening, including an enhanced DBS check.
We’ll cover the associated costs.
