Join Swim Buddies, a private swim school based in Darlington, as a Swimming Teacher Support Assistant, where your enthusiasm and commitment will help nurture a love for swimming in learners of all ages. This role offers a fantastic opportunity to gain hands-on experience in Swimming Teaching and Coaching, with a clear pathway to progress into a Trainee Swimming Teacher position. You will work during term time only, supporting the delivery of engaging and safe swimming lessons while developing your skills in instruction and aquatic safety. Your energy and dedication will contribute to creating a positive, inclusive environment that encourages confidence and enjoyment in the water. We teach after school and weekend swim lesson to private clients in both group and individual lessons. (please note the hours are between 4pm - 6:30pm Monday - Friday; and 08:30am - 2pm Saturdays and Sundays)
Responsibilities
- Assist qualified swimming teachers in delivering engaging swimming lessons tailored to different age groups and abilities
- Support learners by providing encouragement, guidance, and supervision to ensure their safety and confidence in the water
- Prepare equipment, set up pools, and ensure the cleanliness and safety of the swimming environment before and after lessons
- Observe learners’ progress and provide feedback to help them improve their skills effectively
- Maintain accurate attendance records and assist with administrative tasks related to lesson planning and reporting
- Promote water safety awareness among participants and foster a positive attitude towards swimming as a lifelong activity
- Support the development of your coaching skills through ongoing training opportunities, with the goal of progressing into a trainee swimming teacher role
Qualifications
- Experience in sports coaching or working with children is desirable but not essential
- Excellent communication skills to effectively interact with learners, colleagues, and parents where appropriate
- Enthusiastic, energetic, and committed to promoting water safety and enjoyment of swimming
- Willingness to undertake training related to aquatic safety, teaching techniques, and progression pathways
- Willingness to work weekends during term time.
