Help people find a place to call home
At Bassetlaw District Council, we're committed to creating stronger communities and improving the lives of local residents. We're looking for a proactive and customer-focused Allocations Officer to join our Housing Services team and play a vital role in helping people access safe, suitable housing.
This is more than an administration role. Every day you will help residents navigate their housing journey, support vulnerable individuals, and ensure Council homes are allocated fairly, efficiently and in line with policy.
Why join us?
You'll be joining a supportive and experienced team where your work has a genuine impact on people's lives. Whether you're helping a family move into a new home or ensuring empty properties are re-let quickly, you'll make a meaningful contribution to the local community.
About the role
As an Allocations Officer, you'll manage the allocation of Council homes through our HomeFinder Choice Based Lettings Scheme. You'll work with customers, housing partners and colleagues across the Council to deliver a high-quality, responsive service.
Key responsibilities include:
-
Managing the allocation of Council housing in line with policy and service standards.
- Assessing applications and verifying housing circumstances.
- Providing advice and guidance to customers regarding housing options.
- Carrying out property viewings and supporting new tenants through the sign-up process.
- Working closely with housing associations and partner organisations.
- Maintaining accurate records and ensuring compliance with procedures.
- Helping to minimise void periods and maximise the availability of Council housing.
About you
We're looking for someone who enjoys working with people, thrives in a busy environment and takes pride in delivering excellent customer service.
You'll bring:
-
Experience within a customer-focused environment.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail.
- The ability to manage competing priorities and work to deadlines.
- Confidence using IT systems and maintaining accurate records.
- A positive, adaptable and solution-focused approach.
Experience within housing, allocations or public services would be advantageous, but we are equally interested in individuals who can demonstrate transferable skills and a genuine commitment to supporting local communities.
What's in it for you?
In return, we offer:
-
Generous annual leave entitlement of 26 to 32 days plus bank holidays.
- Flexible working arrangements through our flexitime scheme.
- Free Healthcare Cash Plan.
- Local Government Pension Scheme.
- Learning and development opportunities.
- A supportive and inclusive working environment.
- The opportunity to make a real difference every day.
We offer a generous employee benefit package including 26-32 days holiday plus bank holidays, free healthcare cash plan, flexitime and so much more. You can read about all our employee benefits here.
