Job Purpose
To operate a 16 or 18-tonne Soft Compaction Vehicle (SCV), carrying out scheduled waste collection services safely and efficiently across London.
This is a single-person crew role, with the driver responsible for both operating the vehicle and carrying out the associated collection duties.
Key Responsibilities
- Safely operate 16/18-tonne SCV vehicles.
- Complete scheduled collections across London.
- Operate the vehicle's compaction equipment safely and correctly.
- Carry out loading and collection duties as required.
- Complete daily vehicle checks and report any defects.
- Follow all Drivers' Hours, Tachograph and Health & Safety requirements.
- Complete required vehicle and collection documentation.
- Maintain a professional standard when dealing with customers and members of the public.
- Work independently while managing the daily collection schedule.
- Maintain the vehicle and working area to a clean and safe standard.
- Report any incidents, hazards or operational issues promptly.
- Complete all required company eLearning and training.
Experience & Requirements
- Valid LGV Class 2 / Category C licence.
- Valid Driver CPC and Digital Tachograph Card.
- 0–3 penalty points considered.
- Previous experience operating an SCV is highly desirable.
- Experience driving larger commercial vehicles in London would be advantageous.
- Several years' commercial driving experience preferred.
- Comfortable working independently as a single-person crew.
- Physically capable of carrying out collection duties.
- Good understanding of Health & Safety and safe working practices.
- Reliable, punctual and professional approach.
- Willingness to complete all required training and eLearning before going on the road.
Training
Full training will be provided, including training on the SCV and operational procedures.
Candidates will be required to complete the relevant eLearning training before commencing road-based duties.
Pay Rates
- Standard: £19.23 per hour
- Overtime: £19.23 per hour
- Saturday: £24.04 per hour
- Sunday: £24.04 per hour
- Bank Holiday: £24.04 per hour
