Working Foreman / Plant Operator

JML Contracts is looking for a hands-on Working Foreman / Plant Operator to join our growing team.
This is a key site-based role for someone who can lead on a site, operate plant confidently, and enjoy getting involved in the groundworks and site tasks needed to keep jobs moving along.
We are looking for someone who takes pride in completion of a job, understands site standards, and can help manage the day-to-day running of works across a varity of different projects. You will be expected to support Site and Project Managers, lead a small team, operate machinery when required, keep health and safety standards visible, and make sure work is delivered safely, properly and to programme.
This role would suit someone with strong groundworks experience who has developed into a foreman role, or an experienced plant operator who is already supervising teams and taking responsibility for sections of work on site.
What you’ll be doing
You will help run site works safely and efficiently, making sure the team understands what needs to be done and that work is completed to the right standard.
Your duties will include:
- Operating plant including excavators, dumpers, telehandlers and rollers, depending on tickets and site requirements
- Leading and supervising a small site team
- Carrying out practical groundworks and general site tasks as required
- Reading and following drawings, plans and site instructions
- Supporting the planning and organisation of daily site activity
- Taking ownership of sections of work, including quality, progress and safe delivery
- Managing labour, materials, plant and subcontractor activity on site where required
- Maintaining high standards of health and safety, housekeeping and site presentation
- Completing daily plant checks and basic maintenance
- Supporting site health and safety records, briefings, checks and paperwork
- Raising issues early with Site Managers, Project Managers or Contracts Managers
- Working with suppliers, subcontractors, clients and other site personnel in a professional way
- Helping make sure work is delivered safely on time, on budget and to the standard expected by JML
What we’re looking for
We are looking for someone who is practical, reliable and confident on site.
You will need:
- Proven experience in groundworks, civils or construction site work
- Strong plant operating experience
- Foreman, chargehand or supervisory experience
- The ability to lead, organise and motivate a small team
- Good understanding of site health and safety
- The confidence to read drawings and follow site plans
- A hands-on approach and willingness to get involved in the work
- Good communication skills with managers, site teams, subcontractors and clients
- A proactive, solutions-focused approach
- Good attention to detail and pride in quality workmanship
- Flexibility to travel and work away when projects require it
Tickets and qualifications
Essential:
- CPCS / NPORS plant tickets
- SSSTS or SMSTS
- Full UK driving licence
Preferred:
- First Aid at Work
- Relevant groundworks, civils or construction qualifications
- Additional plant or site safety tickets
