The role (overview): You’ll be a hands-on Senior Carpenter working across adaptation projects and residential building works. You’ll be expected to work independently, coordinate with the Site Manager/Project Manager, and mentor other operatives where needed. Key responsibilities:
1st and 2nd fix carpentry
- Install studwork, joists, floors, and structural timber elements as required
- Fit doors/linings/ironmongery, skirting, architraves, and general joinery
- Kitchen fitting support (units, panels, boxing, finishing) where required
Adaptation works (DFG and private)
- Deliver carpentry elements for level access shower rooms, door widening works, handrails/grab rails backing, and accessibility-related alterations
- Work carefully in occupied homes, maintaining a clean and respectful working environment
Quality, compliance, and finishing standards
- Work to drawings/specifications and maintain a high-quality finish
- Ensure work is completed safely and to building regulations and site standards
- Identify defects early and resolve or escalate appropriately
Site coordination and leadership
- Coordinate carpentry tasks with other trades to keep programmes moving
- Provide guidance to apprentices/junior operatives when on site
- Support the Site Manager with progress updates and materials planning
Materials, tools, and housekeeping
- Measure and order/plan materials accurately to reduce waste and delays
- Maintain tools and keep work areas tidy and safe
- Protect client property and finishes (floor protection, dust control, etc.)
Client-facing professionalism
- Communicate clearly and respectfully with clients, especially vulnerable customers
- Represent MBS professionally at all times
Requirements
- Proven experience as a Carpenter/Joiner (senior level)
- Strong 1st/2nd fix capability and ability to work from drawings
- Experience in domestic refurbishment/new build/extensions preferred
- Comfortable working in occupied properties and around vulnerable clients
- Full UK driving licence (preferred)
- Own tools where applicable (some tools will be provided)
- Strong attention to detail and pride in finishing
Desirable
- Experience with adaptation works (DFG), accessibility alterations, or social housing projects
- SSSTS/CSCS (or willingness to obtain)
- DBS enhanced check
- Basic multi-trade skills (patching, minor making-good) helpful
Working Hours:
- Monday-Friday 8am - 5pm
- Ability to work some Saturdays and holidays (dependent on capacity and need)
Pay: £33,000.00 per year
