About the Role
We’re looking for a caring, energetic, compassionate, and proactive Care Companion to support a fun-loving young male adult with complex care needs to live life to the fullest. The role can be full time or part time and the core working hours will be 8.30am - 6.30pm Monday to Saturday.
This is far more than a traditional care role. We are seeking someone who will become an enthusiastic companion and positive influence — someone who actively seeks out opportunities, activities, and experiences that bring enjoyment, stimulation, and adventure to everyday life.
The young man you’ll support enjoys being out and about and living an active life. You’ll accompany him to sporting events, music venues, cinema, social activities, day trips, community events, and other experiences that encourage inclusion, enjoyment, and independence. His disabilities do not define him, and his family strongly believes in positive risk taking and enabling him to experience life as fully as possible.
He has limited verbal communication, so patience, intuition, warmth, and a sense of humour are essential. He responds well to people who are engaging, encouraging, and genuinely invested in helping him enjoy life.
You will also play an important role in supporting his physical wellbeing by encouraging regular exercise programmes as directed by his physiotherapy team, with the ongoing goal of improving mobility and hopefully one day walking again.
Please note that unfortunately at this time we are unable to offer sponsorship.
What You’ll Do
- Deliver person-centred care tailored to his individual needs and goals.
- Provide personal care, including assistance with washing, dressing, and grooming.
- Actively seek and plan enjoyable activities, outings, and experiences.
- Support attendance at sporting events, music venues, social activities, and community opportunities.
- Encourage confidence, independence, and positive risk taking in everyday life.
- Support physiotherapy-led exercise programmes and mobility goals.
- Assist with moving and handling safely and effectively.
- Support meal preparation and encourage healthy eating.
- Administer or prompt medication as required.
- Offer companionship, emotional support, encouragement, and fun.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and welcoming home environment.
- Work closely with the family and wider healthcare professionals to ensure the highest quality of support.
What We’re Looking For
- Previous experience in live-in care, complex care, or supporting people with disabilities is desirable.
- A genuinely positive, proactive, and enthusiastic personality.
- Someone who enjoys being active, social, and involved in the community.
- Confidence supporting people with limited communication.
- A caring and compassionate nature, with genuine empathy and patience.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Respect for privacy, dignity, independence, and personal choice.
- Ability to work independently with professionalism and reliability.
- Confidence in safe moving and handling practices.
- A full UK driving licence is essential.
