Are you passionate about supporting children, young people and families to overcome challenges and achieve positive change? We’re looking for a dedicated, flexible and motivated Children and Families Intervention Worker to join North Yorkshire Council’s Early Help Team.
About the role
This is a truly rewarding role where your work will have a direct and lasting impact on the lives of vulnerable children and families across our communities.
You will work closely with children, young people, and families who may be facing vulnerability, risk, or disadvantage. Through focused and purposeful interventions, you will support improved safety, strengthen resilience, and promote positive, long-term outcomes.
Key tasks:
- Delivering structured interventions for children at risk of offending or exploitation
- Supporting Homes for Ukraine families
- Assisting asylum-seeking children and families, as well as other newly arrived communities, to access services
- Working with Gypsy, Roma and Traveller communities to improve engagement and inclusion
- Supporting children moving into bespoke accommodation following placement breakdowns
- Facilitating group programmes to reduce risk-taking behaviours and build essential life skills
- Delivering the Parenting Apart Programme where appropriate
- Undertaking welfare checks and visits for children identified as Missing from Education
You will work collaboratively with social workers and multi-agency partners, while responsibility remains with the allocated Social Worker or Youth Justice Officer.
About the Service
Early Help is part of North Yorkshire County Council’s Children & Families Service. We work alongside children, young people and their families up to the age of 19 (25 years when there is identified SEND needs). We are a consent-based service focused on offering ‘the right support at the right time’. Our work is strength based and underpinned by our ‘Strength in Relationships’ practice model. We work alongside other relevant agencies to ensure that we support families to create their own sustainable family plans that really make a real difference to their lives.

About you
You will:
- Be qualified to Level 3 (or above) in a relevant field
- Have experience in working with vulnerable children, young people and families
- Ideally be knowledgeable in Early Help or social care practice
- Be adaptable, resilient and confident working in a fast-paced, changing environment
- Be committed to delivering high-quality, child-centred support
Flexibility is essential, as the role includes some evening, weekend and bank holiday working.
It is an exciting time in Children and Young Peoples Services in North Yorkshire as we plan our approach in respect of the Families First Partnership Programme and how we will be responding to the social care reforms. Work is underway to plan our approach and implementations for 2027. As a result of this, some realignment may happen with job roles in the future, we want to be transparent about this in respect of this role.
