About the Role
7th Heaven Bakery is opening at Eden Shopping Centre, High Wycombe, and we are looking for a talented and enthusiastic Cake Chef / Bakery Chef to join our team.
Cakes are at the heart of 7th Heaven Bakery and are the main focus of this role.
We specialise in a wide variety of fresh cakes, celebration cakes, customised cakes, pastries, desserts and bakery products. We are therefore looking for someone who is confident working with cakes and has a genuine passion for baking, cake preparation, finishing and presentation.
Alongside cakes and bakery products, the role may also involve preparing desserts, breakfast items, light meals and other café food as required.
Main Responsibilities – Cakes & Bakery
- Prepare and bake a variety of cakes and bakery products to consistently high standards.
- Prepare cake sponges, fillings, creams, frostings, ganache and other cake components.
- Assemble, fill, layer and finish cakes ready for decoration and sale.
- Assist with celebration and customised cake orders.
- Decorate and finish cakes to an attractive and professional standard.
- Prepare cupcakes, pastries, desserts and other bakery products.
- Ensure cakes are produced according to recipes, portion sizes and quality standards.
- Maintain excellent consistency in the taste, texture, appearance and presentation of cakes.
- Prepare cakes and desserts for the shop display and ensure displays remain fresh and attractive.
- Manage cake production according to daily demand and customer orders.
- Support the preparation of urgent and same-day cake orders where required.
- Monitor ingredients and bakery stock and minimise wastage.
- Contribute ideas for new cakes, flavours, desserts and seasonal products.
Additional Kitchen Responsibilities
- Prepare breakfast, brunch, light meals and savoury café items where required.
- Work closely with cake decorators, kitchen staff and the Front of House team.
- Ensure customer orders are completed accurately and on time.
- Maintain a clean, organised and hygienic kitchen and bakery workspace.
- Follow all food hygiene, allergen, health and safety procedures.
- Correctly label, store and rotate ingredients and finished products.
- Assist with opening and closing kitchen procedures.
About You
Our main requirement is someone with a strong interest and preferably hands-on experience in cakes and bakery products.
We are looking for someone who:
- Has experience preparing, baking or finishing cakes.
- Is passionate about cakes, baking and desserts.
- Understands cake sponges, creams, fillings, frostings and basic cake finishing techniques.
- Has a good eye for cake presentation and attention to detail.
- Can consistently follow recipes and quality standards.
- Can work efficiently in a busy bakery environment.
- Is reliable, punctual and responsible.
- Can work independently and as part of a team.
- Maintains excellent food hygiene and cleanliness standards.
- Is willing to learn our 7th Heaven cake recipes, designs and preparation methods.
- Is flexible to work weekends and during busy seasonal periods.
Experience & Qualifications
- Previous cake making, bakery, pastry or cake chef experience is highly desirable.
- Experience in a bakery, cake shop, patisserie, café or similar environment would be an advantage.
- Experience with celebration/custom cakes would be beneficial.
- Basic cake decorating skills would be an advantage.
- Knowledge of food hygiene and allergen procedures is required.
- Food Hygiene/Food Safety certification is desirable.
Full training on our products, recipes and standards can be provided to the right candidate.
