The Role
Due to continued growth, CDR M&E Services is looking for an experienced Mechanical Services Supervisor to take ownership of our Commercial Gas, Plumbing and Air Conditioning works across the North East.
This is a hands-on supervisory and management role sitting between our engineers and senior management.
We're looking for someone who understands commercial mechanical services and can take a job from the initial enquiry through to successful completion.
You'll be involved in surveying, scoping, estimating, procurement, planning, technical support and supervision, while remaining willing to get involved on site when required.
The position would suit an experienced Commercial Gas Engineer, Mechanical Supervisor, HVAC Engineer or Senior Mechanical Engineer looking to take the next step in their career.
As our mechanical division continues to grow, there will be genuine opportunity for this position to develop into a Mechanical Contracts Manager / Mechanical Divisional Manager role.
Key Responsibilities
Your responsibilities will include:
- Surveying Commercial Gas, Plumbing and A/C works
- Producing clear and accurate scopes of work
- Assisting with estimating and preparing quotations
- Identifying labour, materials, plant and equipment requirements
- Procuring materials and equipment
- Planning and coordinating works
- Allocating and supervising engineers and subcontractors
- Providing technical support and guidance to engineers
- Attending sites to assess faults and technical issues
- Managing works from initial enquiry through to completion
- Liaising with clients, suppliers and site representatives
- Monitoring labour, materials and job costs
- Identifying variations, remedial works and additional opportunities
- Ensuring work is delivered safely, efficiently and to a high standard
- Carrying out quality inspections
- Ensuring relevant certification, commissioning and handover documentation is completed
- Supporting planned and reactive maintenance contracts
- Assisting with RAMS and safe systems of work
- Helping develop and improve our mechanical service delivery
This isn't a purely office-based position. You'll remain technically involved and may occasionally be required to assist engineers on site, particularly with complex faults, surveys and commissioning.

- Boiler and plant replacement projects
- Planned and reactive maintenance
Commercial Plumbing
- Commercial hot and cold-water systems
- Water heaters and cylinders
- Pumps and pressurisation equipment
- Valves and controls
- Pipework alterations
- Sanitaryware
- Leak investigation and repairs
- Planned and reactive plumbing works
Air Conditioning & HVAC
- Split and multi-split A/C systems
- Commercial A/C installations
- Servicing and planned maintenance
- Fault finding and repairs
- System replacement
- Ventilation and associated HVAC equipment
- Commissioning and handover
Qualifications & Experience
Due to the nature of the role, applicants must hold current Commercial Gas qualifications and have strong experience working on commercial gas and heating systems.
Essential Commercial Gas Qualifications
Applicants should hold relevant current commercial gas qualifications, including:
- COCN1 – Core Commercial Gas Safety
- CIGA1 – Indirect-Fired Commercial Appliances
- CDGA1 – Direct-Fired Commercial Appliances
- CORT1 – Overhead Radiant Tube & Plaque Heaters
- ICPN1 – Installation of Commercial Pipework
- TPCP1A – Testing and Purging of Commercial Gas Installations
We would also expect:
- Strong experience working on commercial boilers, heating systems and plant
- Excellent fault-finding and diagnostic ability
- Experience with commercial gas servicing, breakdowns and remedial works
- Good understanding of commercial plumbing and heating systems
- Ability to survey and scope mechanical works
- Ability to identify labour, materials and plant requirements
- Experience supervising or supporting other engineers
- Good understanding of health & safety and safe systems of work
- Strong organisational and customer communication skills
- Good commercial awareness
- Full UK driving licence
Desirable
The following would be advantageous but are not essential:
- F-Gas qualification
- Air Conditioning / HVAC experience
- Commercial A/C installation and maintenance experience
- Plumbing and heating qualifications
- Unvented hot water qualification
- Experience with pumps, pressurisation units and commercial plant rooms
- Ventilation experience
- Previous supervisory or management experience
You must have a strong Commercial Gas foundation and be confident taking responsibility for the technical delivery of commercial mechanical works.
