Faculty Research Operations - Arts & Humanities (HRC)
At the University of York, operational research support is delivered through a single, interconnected institution-wide community of practice through Faculty-facing teams line managed from the Research, Innovation and Knowledge Exchange (RIKE) directorate. The three teams (Arts & Humanities, Social Sciences, and Sciences) provide end-to-end operational support for externally-funded research and research-related projects, throughout the project lifecycle.
- Pre-Award (working with academics to create budgets, handling internal approvals processes and project management of submission process)
- Post-Award (accepting awards, setting up budgets and managing finances throughout lifecycle of grant)
- Environment and development (supporting strategic thinking around funding, helping academics to engage with new opportunities, and supporting the creation of a strong departmental research environment)
As part of the Faculty Research Environment, Development and Pre-Award team, work flexibly to provide a responsive service to assist academic staff in the preparation and submission of standard research and research-related grant applications, in line with University and funder requirements. Provide expert advice on regulations and processes and produce accurately costed project budgets, coordinating input from internal and external colaborators. Liaise with colleagues and proactively coordinate processes, for example match funding or letters of support, and ensure internal deadlines for institutional sign-off are met. Check all documentation and use funder online portals to submit applications in a timely fashion. Provide support and cover for team members where required.
Working with Research Coordinators to provide support for the research environment by sharing funding opportunities, supporting the operation of Faculty/Departmental/School schemes, developing digital resources on research information, providing support for effective use of systems, and monitoring policy compliance and the achievement of Faculty/Departmental/School research targets.
- Excellent numeracy skills, competent working with project budgets, demonstrating accuracy and attention to detail.
- Able to effectively organise and prioritise work and follow procedures in order to produce work to a high standard to required deadlines.
- Proactive approach to solving problems.
- Manage small-scale projects.
- Communicate effectively in verbal and written formats.
