Summary
We are seeking a dedicated Automotive Technician to join our UK team. Based in Leicestershire , this role is vital in supporting our mission to deliver top-tier diagnostic and repair solutions for the automotive industry. As a member of the Snap-on Diagnostics team, the successful candidate will play an active role throughout the software development lifecycle. This includes sourcing vehicle communication recordings from targeted vehicles and validating diagnostic functionality to ensure the highest levels of quality and reliability. Through this work, the role directly contributes to maintaining Snap‑on Diagnostics’ position as a market leader in automotive diagnostic solutions.
Key Tasks/Responsibilities
- Perform hands on testing of diagnostic software on production vehicles across multiple makes, models, engines, and system variants to validate coverage accuracy and functionality
- Verify diagnostic trouble code (DTC) reading, clearing, live data parameters, functional tests, special functions and service routines against actual vehicle behavior and OEM tools where applicable
- Confirm that diagnostic workflows, test conditions, and system responses are logical, safe and consistent with real world workshop usage
- Identify inaccuracies, missing coverage, incorrect test conditions, or misleading results in diagnostic content and document findings clearly
- Validate newly developed or updated diagnostic content prior to software releases to ensure compliance with internal quality standards and customer expectations
- Re test corrected content following defect resolution or service releases to confirm fixes are effective
- Capture and supply vehicle communication recordings (e.g., CAN, DoIP) from targeted vehicles to support development, analysis, and validation activities
- Assist in reproducing reported field issues and collecting supporting logs, traces and recordings when defects are identified
- Accurately log defects, improvement opportunities and validation results into internal defect or content tracking systems
- Collaborate closely with software developers, diagnostic content authors, test engineers and product managers to explain findings from a technician’s perspective
- Compare diagnostic software behavior against OEM diagnostic tools and service information to ensure parity or clearly documented limitations where differences exist
- Support analysis of OEM service functions, routines, and calibration behaviors to guide accurate diagnostic implementation
- Set up and maintain test vehicles, diagnostic tools, interfaces and supporting workshop equipment required for validation activities
- Manage time and project deliverables as assigned
- Other duties as assigned
Essential Qualifications and Skills
- NVQ Level 3 in Vehicle Mechanical & Electronic Systems - Maintenance & Repair or equivalent
- Comfortable with the latest vehicle technologies and diagnostic procedures used within the automotive industry
- Established network of automotive dealerships and independent workshop/car supermarket contacts
- Ability to read and interpret automotive wiring diagrams
- Strong time management and organization skills with the ability to plan and organize their working week.
- Strong computer literacy, including working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Excellent organizational skills
