Job Summary
We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated DevOps Engineer to join our dynamic IT team. The successful candidate will be responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining scalable, reliable, and secure cloud and on-premise infrastructure. This role involves automating deployment pipelines, managing system configurations, and ensuring seamless integration across various platforms. The ideal applicant will possess a strong background in software development, system administration, and cloud computing, with a keen eye for troubleshooting and optimisation. Duties
- Develop and maintain automated deployment pipelines using tools such as Jenkins, GitLab CI/CD, and TFS.
- Manage containerisation platforms including Docker and Kubernetes to facilitate scalable microservices architectures.
- Configure and administer cloud infrastructure on AWS, Azure, Google Cloud Platform, and OpenStack environments.
- Implement Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using Terraform, Ansible, Chef, Puppet, and PowerShell scripts.
- Monitor system performance with tools like New Relic, Splunk, Elasticsearch, and optimise system health proactively.
- Oversee disaster recovery planning and implement strategies to ensure business continuity.
- Manage databases including MySQL, Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle, DynamoDB, and utilise SQL/PLSQL for optimisation.
- Maintain web servers such as NGINX, WebSphere, JBoss, Weblogic, and ensure high availability of web services via REST APIs.
- Troubleshoot software deployment issues across various environments; perform debugging of applications written in Java, C#, Python, Ruby on Rails, Node.js, Groovy, Perl, Go, and Shell scripting.
- Collaborate with development teams during SDLC phases including requirements gathering, system testing, release management and incident response.
- Administer network security measures including firewalls, DNS configuration, TCP/IP protocols whilst supporting computer networking tasks such as LAN/WAN connectivity.
- Support technical support activities by resolving incident management issues swiftly to minimise downtime.
Experience
- Proven experience in DevOps roles with extensive knowledge of continuous integration/delivery pipelines.
- Proficiency in managing cloud infrastructure (AWS/Azure/Google Cloud) along with virtualisation technologies such as VMware and Virtualisation platforms like OpenStack.
- Strong scripting skills in Bash (Unix shell), PowerShell; experience with Python or Ruby is highly desirable.
- Hands-on experience with containerisation (Docker), orchestration (Kubernetes), configuration management (Ansible/Chef/Puppet).
- Familiarity with monitoring tools such as New Relic or Splunk; experience in system troubleshooting and incident management is essential.
- Solid understanding of SDLC processes including requirements gathering and software quality assurance practices.
- Knowledge of distributed systems architecture including microservices design patterns; experience working within SaaS environments preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to manage complex systems involving web services APIs; expertise in Java development frameworks (Spring Boot),.NET applications or C# is advantageous.
- Experience working with version control systems such as GitHub or GitLab; familiarity with TFS is a plus.
This role requires a proactive individual capable of working under pressure whilst maintaining high standards of quality assurance in all deliverables. Pay: £40,000.00-£100,000.00 per year
