Are you an experienced operations professional who enjoys leading services, improving processes and working collaboratively with a wide range of people? We are seeking an Operations Manager to play a key role in the successful delivery of undergraduate practical chemistry teaching within our state-of-the-art Chemistry Teaching Laboratory (CTL).
The CTL supports over 540 undergraduate students each year and brings together academic, technical and professional services staff in a dynamic teaching environment. This is a varied and rewarding role at the heart of the facility, with the opportunity to shape how the CTL operates and develops in the future.
As Operations Manager, you will lead the operational and administrative functions of the CTL, working closely with laboratory leadership, academic staff, technicians, students and departmental colleagues. You will oversee budgets, procurement, timetabling, communications, recruitment processes, facilities coordination and operational planning, while also line managing the CTL Administrator.
You will play a key role in driving service improvements, supporting the use of technology and systems, maintaining compliance and health and safety records, and ensuring an excellent experience for both staff and students.
You will bring:
- Experience in operations, administration or service delivery.
- Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities.
- Experience of managing budgets and monitoring expenditure.
- Experience of supervising or managing staff.
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
- A track record of improving processes and solving operational challenges.
- Strong IT and systems skills.
- A commitment to fostering an inclusive and collaborative working environment.
Experience within higher education, science, technical services or laboratory environments would be an advantage but is not essential.
