The Role
We are seeking a skilled and experienced On Call Air Conditioning Engineer to join our team on a permanent, mobile basis.
The role will primarily involve the service, maintenance and repair of Air Handling Units (AHUs), chillers, split systems and Direct Expansion (DX) systems, with a particular focus on cooling systems associated with specialist medical equipment.
The ideal candidate will have strong knowledge of air conditioning and refrigeration systems, together with a good understanding of electrics, controls and general building services. You will be expected to deliver high-standard service and maintenance work while maintaining excellent customer relationships.
Due to the critical nature of the equipment and environments involved, on-call participation will be required.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out routine maintenance, inspections and repairs on air conditioning and cooling systems.
- Perform reactive maintenance and planned preventative maintenance (PPM) on chillers, AHUs, split systems and DX systems.
- Diagnose and repair system faults, refrigerant leaks and associated issues.
- Maintain accurate and comprehensive HVAC equipment records, including F-Gas compliance documentation.
- Work collaboratively with electrical, building services and BMS (Building Management Systems) teams.
- Provide technical advice and recommendations relating to AC and cooling systems where required.
- Maintain a professional and customer-focused approach when working on client sites.
- Travel nationwide as required, including occasional overnight stays.
- Participate in the on-call rota due to the critical nature of the services provided.
Required Skills & Experience
- Minimum 4 years' experience in service and reactive air conditioning maintenance, with some PPM experience.
- Strong expertise in air conditioning, chiller and DX system maintenance.
- Good basic electrical knowledge and experience within general building services.
- Strong customer-facing and communication skills; articulate, professional and presentable.
- IT literate, with good record-keeping and data-management skills.
- Experience maintaining F-Gas records and compliance documentation.
- Relevant qualifications, such as C&G/NVQ in Air Conditioning and Refrigeration.
- F-Gas 2079 certification and safe handling of refrigerants.
- Full and valid UK driving licence.
- Willingness to travel nationwide and stay away from home occasionally.
- Willingness to participate in an on-call rota.
Desirable Skills & Experience
- Experience working with medical imaging equipment and associated cooling systems.
- Familiarity with NHS and private medical facilities.
- Additional electrical and BMS experience.
- Manufacturer training and relevant industry certifications.
- Experience using job allocation and management systems, such as Clik. Training will be provided where necessary.
