About the Role
We're looking for an experienced, time-served Welder/Fabricator to take on a key role within our workshop. This is a hands-on position suited to someone who enjoys helping others, setting high standards, and keeping work moving.
As Workshop Team Lead, you'll be a point of contact for welders and fabricators across the workshop. Using your knowledge and experience, you'll help train and develop employees, support our competency framework, and assist with the day-to-day running of the workshop.
Working alongside our current Workshop Team Lead, you'll support the Project Delivery Manager in making sure work is completed safely, efficiently, and to the required quality standards. You'll also provide day-to-day support and guidance to workshop employees, helping maintain a positive, productive and well-organised working environment.
What You'll Be Doing
- Acting as a go-to person for welders and fabricators across the workshop.
- Providing on-the-job training, coaching and support to help employees develop their skills and progress through our competency framework.
- Supporting colleagues with problem-solving, quality checks and job planning.
- Working closely with the QA/QC team to ensure work meets required standards, specifications and documentation requirements.
- Supporting inspections, helping address NCRs, and promoting a right first time approach.
- Taking a hands-on role in fabrication and welding activities to help keep jobs on track.
- Ensuring production deadlines are met and work flows efficiently through the workshop.
- Supporting the Project Delivery Manager with workload planning, priorities and employee support.
- Supporting workshop employees with day-to-day issues and queries.
- Conducting return to work discussions and completing associated documentation.
- Monitoring attendance and timekeeping, making recommendations and escalating concerns where appropriate.
- Providing informal coaching, feedback and counselling to address performance, conduct and attendance issues at an early stage.
- Helping employees develop their skills through competency reviews and on-the-job coaching.
- Helping maintain a safe, productive and well-organised workshop.
What We're Looking For
- Time-served Welder/Fabricator with strong experience across a range of welding and fabrication techniques.
- Someone who enjoys helping and developing others.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to build good working relationships across the workshop.
- A practical problem-solver who can support others and lead by example.
- Organised, dependable and willing to take responsibility when needed.
- Experience in coaching, mentoring or providing informal support to employees in a workshop or manufacturing environment.
- Ability to address performance, attendance and conduct issues in a professional and constructive way.
- Good understanding of workshop quality processes, welding standards and QA/QC requirements.
Working Hours
The workshop generally runs between 6:00am and 6:00pm, and flexibility is required to help ensure adequate cover throughout these operating hours.
The successful candidate will be expected to work with other team members to support the team's coverage requirements and may occasionally be required to adjust their start and finish times to meet operational needs.

Pay: £21.00-£25.00 per hour
