We have a fantastic opportunity for an experienced Transport Planner to join a well-established family run haulage firm for our morning shift.
We work as part of a Pallet Network and are based just outside Sowerby Bridge.
Monday to Friday : 4am - 11:30am
For this role you will have –
- Good knowledge of the surrounding area.
- Strong experience in transport planning.
- Excellent communication skills.
- IT literate.
- Experience in working under pressure.
- A sounds understanding of Driver hours and rest periods.
- A sound knowledge of vehicle limits and load safety
- Experience of HGV shunting would be an advantage
Duties include
- Management of the transport planning of up to 20 HGV & LGV Vehicles - a mixture of artic, curtain-sider and vans
- Use tracking tool to plan, monitor and manage drivers workloads ensuring customer and depot partner requirements (timescales and service levels) are met – communicating with depots, customers and colleagues on any issues.
- Pre-brief and de-brief drivers on their daily runs throughout the day
- Identify route / load requirements and risk mitigations for all work undertaken
- Competently and safely load and unload drivers (or oversee this) using an FLT for relevant runs and deliveries and /or collections, ensuring journeys start on time.
- Provide shunting support in the yard where appropriate to aid loading and utilisation of space.
- Carry out daily warehouse scans and all labelling activity ensuring freight is managed appropriately and all anomalies are dealt with and/or escalated
- Ensure warehouse and yard is kept tidy and well maintained
- Record collection/delivery status and discrepancies in systems and escalate or resolve making revenue requests where appropriate
- Provide any information or reports daily as required for example; consignments for watch-list customers to the Network, missed collections/deliveries or held freight to colleagues
- Input and share accurate information and paperwork with drivers, colleagues, customers and agency partners to enable effective operations.
- Ensure full efficiency and maximum utilisation of the vehicles and driver resource.
- Ensure Health & Safety standards are upheld, company policies and procedures and all regulations (i.e. tachographs, defects etc.) are adhered to when planning and carrying out work.
- Deliver a full and effective debrief and handover between Morning and Evening shift ensuring a forward-looking approach where vehicles, drivers and warehouses are prepped for next shift.
- Liaison with 3rd party suppliers to support maintenance schedule of vehicles
- Manage staffing levels, including agency staff to ensure sufficient staffing levels are always in place to meet and exceed the daily plan and to meet customer requirements.
- Booking in deliveries and collections and provide rates, quotes and process all customer bookings to meet customers’ needs and expectations.
- Identify, communicate, and drive any continuous improvements to continually develop the operation of the business.
- Provide cover for other departments/roles as required, working flexible hours as required.
Skills, Qualifications and educational requirements:
· Good working knowledge of Microsoft office and comfortable learning and using new software
· GCSE or equivalent in Maths & English.
· Good communication & customer service skills.
· Experience working from a similar environment preferred.
· Ability to work under pressure & cope during high volume peaks.
