Area Sales Manager – East of England
DEA Gate Automation is looking for an ambitious and experienced Area Sales Manager to join our growing sales team and take responsibility for developing our business across the East of England and Home Counties.
This is a field-based role with a strong focus on new business development, supported by the opportunity to develop existing customer relationships and grow sales within an established territory.
The successful candidate will ideally have experience within the automation, access control, security or related industries, together with a good understanding of technical products and solutions. However, we are also keen to hear from experienced sales professionals from other technical or engineering backgrounds who have the right attitude, commercial ability and willingness to learn.
You will be responsible for managing the complete sales process, from identifying and qualifying new opportunities through to technical presentations, quotations, negotiations and ultimately securing the order.

Key Objectives
- Develop and grow sales across the allocated territory.
- Identify and generate new business opportunities through proactive prospecting and lead generation.
- Develop long-term relationships with existing customers and maximise opportunities within the existing customer base.
- Achieve agreed monthly and annual sales targets.
- Arrange and conduct regular customer meetings, site visits and product presentations.
- Understand customer requirements and recommend the most appropriate products and solutions.
- Maintain an organised and structured approach to territory management and sales activity.
- Monitor market conditions, competitor activity and customer requirements to identify new opportunities.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and develop an existing customer base across the East of England and Home Counties.
- Proactively identify, contact and develop new prospective customers.
- Generate leads through telephone prospecting, email, networking, referrals, customer visits and other appropriate sales activities.
- Manage the full sales cycle from initial enquiry through to quotation, negotiation and order.
- Prepare accurate quotations, proposals and sales reports.
- Conduct product demonstrations and technical presentations where required.
- Develop a strong understanding of DEA's products and solutions and confidently communicate their benefits to customers.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date information within the company's CRM system.
- Work closely with the wider sales and technical teams to ensure customers receive an excellent level of service.
- Maintain regular contact with customers to identify repeat business, additional requirements and new opportunities.
- Take responsibility for achieving agreed sales and activity targets within the territory.
About You
We are looking for someone who is commercially driven, organised and confident dealing with customers at all levels.
You will be comfortable working independently, managing your own diary and taking responsibility for developing your territory. You should also be able to demonstrate a structured approach to sales and a genuine desire to win new business.
Essential Skills & Experience
- Minimum of 3 years' sales experience, ideally within a technical or B2B environment.
- Proven experience in generating new business and developing customer accounts.
- Strong communication, negotiation and presentation skills.
- Excellent relationship-building and interpersonal skills.
- A structured and proactive approach to sales activity.
- Ability to manage your own diary, territory and sales pipeline.
- Good organisational and time-management skills.
- Comfortable working independently in a field-based role.
- Experience using CRM and sales management systems.
- Full UK driving licence.
Desirable Skills & Experience
- Experience within the automatic gates, access control, security, or automation industries.
- Good technical understanding of control systems, electronics or electrical/mechanical products.
- Experience selling technical products or solutions.
- Experience delivering technical presentations and product demonstrations.
- Existing relationships within the automation, security, access control or related industries.
- Demonstrable experience of consistently achieving or exceeding sales targets.
Mechanical and electrical backgrounds will also be considered, particularly where the candidate has strong commercial and customer-facing experience.

The successful applicant will be subject to satisfactory references and pre-employment checks and will complete a six-month probationary period, during which performance and suitability for the role will be reviewed.
